Time to buy my 1st set of rears

UK - it’s time for me to purchase my first set of rear tyres since taking ownership of my MY18 V6. She currently has P Zeros (295/35 ZR20).

From reading the forum it appears the PS4S’s are the way to go.

I can get the following tyres locally but wanted to know the difference between the them as they are roughly the same price.

Pilot Sport 4 S £265 each
Pilot Super Sport £261

There is another Pilot Super Sport MO shown for £265 as well.

Are you intending to just replace the rears?
If so, you should not mix the tires.
You should stay with P-Zeros if you have those at the front.
 
I disagree. Although it is the best advice not to mix tyres, in the real world different tyre pairs on different axles is not unsafe and probably not very noticeable. In my opinion, get the Michelins or whatever you prefer. I've always worked along these lines and it's fine.

Agreed, don't mix tyres on the same axle, but different pairs front and back should be fine. Especially at safe road speeds - if you're charging round a track the advice may be different! I've not had the Michelin experience myself yet, but comon consensus seems to be that MPS4S are the ones to go for.
 
Just put PS4S on the rear of mine, still got original PZeros on the front, feels better to me (I know any new tyre will feel better than the worn out one it replaces) as the new tyres seem more pliant than the PZeros. Really glad I didn’t replace with another set of Pirelli’s.

I think the super sport tyres are road tyres designed for track use so will probably wear much faster and probably not as good in the wet
 
Not a problem to have different front tyres than rears , the problem comes when you mix tyres on the same axle . Er , some nut has done this to mine and I am waiting for a reply from the dealer to change the Accelera tyre on left hand rear for a Michelin pilot super sport .
 
I agree you can use different tyre front and back but not on the same axel.

I have just changed my fronts from p zero to pilot sport 4. Didn’t do PS4S in size. Really superior tyre. The p zero use to tramline and wander with the road. PS4 total removed problem. Currently have p zero on back which dealer put on. I will swap to PS4S when they come up for replacement.
 
I'm in the same position. My rear 295 P Zeros are shot and I'll need something new once I put the summer wheels on again. I'll most probably keep the P Zeros in the front a bit longer since they're far from worn out.

Did anyone even consider anything else than the Michelins? Haven't really done any research yet but I wouldn't mind choosing some other tyre if it was almost as good as the PS4S but had better noise ratings.

Last time I was getting new 20" rubbers was for the supercharged XF I had before the F-Type and then I chose the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 3 because they IIRC were nearly as good handling wise as the MP4S but much more quiet. They were great.
 
The only reason I went Michelin route was I had them on my Cayman and they were the best tyre I had . Good on the dry and well mannered in the wet
 
Some folks on the US site go for Continental SportContact 6 or, for all seasons, the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 (plus). My Jaguar experience to date has been on P-Zeroes and Dunlop Maxx, but I'll be trying the Michelins when mine need replacing.
 
My Jag summer tyre experience to date is the OEM P Zeros, OEM Dunlop SportMAXX (both ok) and Vredestein Ultrac Vorti, Falken Azenis FK510 as well as Goodyear Eagle F1 AS3 (all very good and above all more quiet than the OEM tyres).

I would be interested in where you got the quote for mps4s rears at £265 ea
What’s the lowest for fronts?

Continental SportContact 6 on mine upgraded to 305 rears 265 fronts, brilliant tyres no issues any conditions

My recently purchased V6S came with brand new Continental SportContact 6 tyres and I’m impressed with how quiet they are. Haven’t really tested them for grip yet.
I had P Zero’s on my XKR and found they got noisy as they wore down.

Sounds like an interesting option then. How come you went for wider ones?

Rears we’re done, so seen some posts on people going for this wider option, 265 is the match for 305 so did all 4, I’ve 15mm spacers all round and lowered on Eibach springs, seriously good grip on these tyres

Looking great!

Slightly off topic as it's about winters but today I had the first decent blast with my 19" Pirelli Sottozero 3 winters and was quite impressed. Very good grip under these autumn conditions... in these cooler temperatures and a bit of moisture on the roads my rear end was all over the place when I still had my worn 20" P Zeros on. None of that with the winters.

We used to mix up manufacturers tyres between front and rear axle to promote oversteer or understeer many moons ago, so yes you can, but to enjoy the F type fully, investing in a set of Mich all round will be the most productive.

P0's on these cars are a crap combination.
