Switching from Pirellis to Michelins

Apologies for bring tyres up again, I I know there have been lots of posts on this but just need to ensure I’m going for the correct tyres.

I currently have Pirelli’s fitted

Rear 275 35 zr19

Front 245 40 Zr19

Michelin have listed in PS4S -

275 35 r 19, which are and exact match for the rears

But don’t seem to have an exact match for the fronts

245 35 r 19 being the closest match.

Is this OK to switch to?

Cheers

Hi Neil

There should be a tyre size calculator on line (google should bring it up) that allows you to check by comparing the two.

I’ll have a look and see if I can post a link shortly.

Oponeo have a great tyre size calculator, which I've loaded with your current tyre. You can see the alternatives and how much they differ from OEM
Remember too that wider tyres can rub and narrower to some extent change the looks.

The tyre proposed by captainham looks OK on the chart being only 1.2% smaller

Here they are on mine. I admit I'm not the most observant but I'd be surprised if anyone could tell the 1.2% difference!

Sorry - I didn’t write that too clearly. The 1.2% represents the difference in rolling radius, in effect the difference the front now have to rotate compared to original and now the tears.
You could fit bike wheels and get the right radius.
You really need to keep the radius within tight limits else all sorts of issues can arise.
Visually though an extra 1cm width is noticeable to some people.

Just looked on the Blackcircle site and their tyre finder is bringing up the right size Michelin

Is that definitely the 4S? The 4 was available when I wanted mine a month back, but not the S and Michelin couldn't say if/when it would be available.

Hello

I noticed that .. 4s for the rear but non s for the front ?

so quick question is there a big difference between a pilot sport 4 and a 4s ? what is the difference ?

regards

Sorry I had missed the omission of the s

Yes maybe as a note to others (as not everyone realises)

There are Pilot Sport 4 and Pilot Sport 4S - they are different tyres. It’s not always clear or if forum posters are aware or realise, and made even more confusing when discussing tyres in the plural and adding an ‘s’ to the end e.g. PS4, PS4s, PS4S ;)

Pilot sport 4S https://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-pilot-sport-4-s

Thank you Kev

just as I thought .. so for my humble V6 340bhp base ftype

would the non s pilot sport be better then the P zERO ?

or must it be the S pilot sport ?

many thanks for the help .. :D

Here you go Kaspa...

The 4 would indeed be a decent improvement over the P Zeros.

Basically you won't tell the difference between the 4 and 4S, but the 4S will last a bit longer.

Apparently the 4S replaced the Super Sport and not the 4.
