Starter issue

Hello,

Car is MY18 F Type SVR.

Wondering if anyone can help with a starting issue I’m having.
Initially, the car would not crank and there was only a click on starting. Got underneath the car and gave the starter a tap whilst my partner pressed the start button and it fired into life.
So booked in for a starter replacement. New starter fitted to car, now the mechanic is saying the engine cranks fine but it doesn’t actually fire up.
This is odd because the engine was working fine previously, I drove it to the workshop.
He has tested for a spark and apparently there’s no spark. But there’s also no codes stored.
He has sent me a photo and it seems like when the cranking is manually stopped with the button, the car splutters a bit as if it’s only getting ignition when the starter motor stops getting power.

Any help or pointers much appreciated.

This the water damaged salvaged car?

Presume it would have had a new starter motor already.
Bad earth on offside front wing, a loose cable from the rebuild or battery.

Indeed, the engine took in water and the engine was replaced. So there could be some cabling that has been disturbed somewhere. The old starter is definitely knackered, as my mechanic has had it off and tested it. Its just odd how the new starter is cranking the engine fine, but now we have no spark.
When it was running fine before albeit with a faulty starter.

Can you elaborate on the offside wing earth? Is there any wiring diagram for that?
Follow the attached thread which also includes the second below link to a further thread within

I have read these threads in depth and that connection under the front offside wing is not an earth point. It’s to do with the power steering and connection from battery to that.

Update on this one. The starter that was used originally was bought via eBay, it was a denso starter with part number T2H3246
I found this from https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

The starter motor that came off the car had part number: GX73-11001-EC

The denso and the one that came off the car looked completely identical. Same number of teeth and kw rating etc.

I decided to source a second hand starter with the exact part number that came off the car.

After this one was fitted, car started no problem. So I’m not sure why, but the denso did not work, and it was a brand new part.

It's a only a compatible covering several JLR models 2016- , so I suspect not software compatible with the SVR.

Given you put a genuine part in the car and it worked three are only 3 possibilities I can think of:
The replacement was faulty
It wasn't compatible
The mechanic correctly connected something that wasn't correct before

Either way a problem closed off

Sorry I was mistaken in my last post, I didn't buy the first starter from ebay, it was from Ashwood Jaguar Parts.

The 2nd hand JLR genuine one that worked was from ebay.

But I agree with you cj10jeeper - it has to be one of those 3 options. I'm not sure I'll ever find out, just glad she starts now!
