Spoiler button seems temperamental

Hi guys,

The active spolier button seems to have a mind of its own. The spoiler deploys fine automatically and 70 and goes down at 50, but when using the button it doesnt seem to want to go down sometimes. Pushing the button always deploys the spoiler no issue but a few times now it wont go back down when I push the button again. Nothing seems to happen! Had to resort to clicking it a few times then eventually pushing and holding the button to get the spoiler to go back down. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Nothing wrong there - down direction is constant pressure - annoying when cleaning the car.

So from the speeds mentioned you have a coupe then.

...for a convertible the speeds are around 64 and 44 if memory serves me right - not seen mine in action for a while now!

Have you thought of testing it Ferris Bueller style in the garage

Really? Because sometimes while I'm driving to lower it again I'll just push the button once and it'll go down. Or maybe I've imagined that? I'll have to go out and test it when it stops raining!

Mine seems speed related.

So if I have the spoiler manually up and doing 30mph a single press lowers it. But if stationary I have to press and hold.

Although I just leave it on automatic.

Ah yeah that sounds similar to whats occuring to me. Pretty normal then!

It's a safety feature - When moving, single press down should stow.

When stationary for cleaning - Push and hold spoiler down to retract....saves little fingers betting squigged maybe.

The official numbers I've seen for the ragtop are 60 up and 40 down .... Don't really understand why it has to be different from the coupe, though.

Probably just that the convertible has a much nicer looking spoiler and it deserves to be seen more

All above makes sense - and of course you can’t manually retract above deployment speed - we wouldn’t want any Audi TT impressions :D

Ah you mean raised more, to the vertical.

That's where the coupe would win out in braking assistance!

You should find what you need here Mick...

Haha! Tried that Idea when we were kids, going downhill on a bicycle. Even with a small crappy homemade chute, when deployed the bike came to a dead stop.....ouch..... handlebars. 😂

I remember showing the deployable spoiler to someone for the first time, couldn't understand why it wouldn't go back down, till I realised you had to hold it whereas I had previously just pressed it when moving, but I bet the reason you have to hold the button when stationery, is to shift the blame to you if you trap someone's fingers and ignore the screaming!

As for the speed of deployment, this will be determined by the down force requirement for stability, the ragtop will need it at lower speeds. The retraction speed will just give some hysteresis to make sure it's well below the deployment speed and safe before removing, and stop it going up and down and up and...

I've always thought that the spoiler on a coupe can quite easily say "hi, I'm speeding"
convertible is up at 64mph I think, down once you go below 40mph - quite like the look of it up on a convertible as its the full width of the car

seem to remember a few Audi's use to have deployable spoiler at 75 - 80mph...

My coupe automatic operation never goes up at speedo 70 but at speedo 74 which dashcam speed shows as 70. I find the manual operation very erratic and have never quite worked it out but certainly when the car is staionary I have to hold it in to make it deploy all the way.
