Evening all

I have the basic Meridian system looking to upgrade finding it difficult to find the upgraded Kevlar speakers I’m only looking to upgrade the doors tweeters, kids, subs. Can you use other jaguar models speakers or do the upgrade have to be from an f type. Any help in finding any would be appreciated.

There's a whole thread here with details of what you need to upgrade the system.

@Andyp123. To answer your question, yes you can use speakers from other Jaguar/LR models to upgrade the F Type stock paper coned speakers to the much better performing Kevlar cones. The best place to source them secondhand, is good old Ebay. If you want to go for new, Britcar.co.uk can supply at 'reasonable' price, or you could try a local 'friendly' dealer.

In terms of locating used speakers on Ebay you need the engineering part numbers for each speaker, as the JLR part number does not appear anywhere on the actual speaker, so breakers can only list speakers by the engineering part number on the speaker label.

In case you haven't seen my post on the subject, see here --> https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=8792 for a complete cross reference table of engineering part numbers along with Jaguar and LR item part numbers.

Also, read through the whole thread as I have listed JLR alternatives (Meridian Signature and Bowers & Wilkins) that can be used when you are struggling to source upgrades.

Happy to answer any specific questions.

Good luck!

Afraid not. 8X23 18808 BA is too deep for F Type door card and has different wiring connector.

Hi Andy,

Here are the Jaguar/Land Rover part numbers you are looking for. Set an eBay search to alert you when they come on there - the bass speaker are the hardest to find..

Tweeters AW9318808AC C2D30486 C2D30486
Mid AW9318808BC C2D2076 C2Z3438
Bass CPLA18808FB C2D24861 LR047119

I would add if you are doing the speakers you should really sound deaden the doors, I did the speakers and the deadening in less than 2hrs. Overall I can’t believe how big the improvement was for such a small outlay, as per usual jag trying to save a tiny amount of money but giving a far worse product

I have just done the upgrade today. used the part numbers as follows:
Original Tweeter, BJ32-18808-AC, New Tweeter AW93-18808-AC
Original Mid, BJ32-18808-BB, New Mid, AW93-18808-BC
Original Bass, CPLA-18808-DB, New Bass CPLA 18808FB,
I ordered them second hand from Taobao which is the Ebay equivalent , here in China.
when they arrived i found that one of the mid range speakers was EC not BC, but after discussions with the seller he said they are the same and if i have any problems i could exchange it.
Total cost was 1250 RMB (150 Pounds) and i also added lots of Sound deadening inside of the door skin and both sides of the large plastic door insert. Sound Now is amazing.
Took about 1.5 hours each side.
If you cannot find the speakers easily in the UK, i would recommend first doing the sound deadening. i am sure that is 60% of the problems with the sound clarity.
I have posted some pictures of the sound deadening showing where it was placed.

Agreed, sound deadening makes quite a difference and is probably the most important part of improving the sound.

I did mine last year and am really happy with the results. I'm still using my standard Meridian speakers but sound deadening (all from Reckhorn, highly recommended!) combined with the much improved equaliser of the UAD CarPlay kit I installed has improved the sound greatly.

Has anyone tried to fit the Bimmertech Alpha One speakers into the F-Type doors? They appear to have identical size and mounting configurations.

Can't answer that unfortunately because I used Reckhorn which came in rolls, but it shouldn't be too hard to calculate if you make some rough measurements of the doors.

Just keep in mind that it's useless to cover the whole door skin insides with vibration stopping mats. Apparently some 30% of the surface is sufficient to deal with with any vibrations and resonance and anything more basically just adds weight (good mats are quite heavy). I admittedly put in more than that but didn't cover everything like some others do.

When it comes to the sound absorbing/blocking material you put on the inside of the door card you should cover as much as possible.
