sim card MY21

Looking at mobile data for MY 21 coupe. I have seen the Three sim for £45 for 24gb valid for 2 years. Anyone use any other network that gives better value? Is this a good deal and is 1gb a month plenty for traffic updates and the odd Spotify songs?

Haven't you got the 3 year from ubgi included?

Bought the car as ex managers car. The Ubgi card was in the car but not working.

If 500Mb per month is good enough for you speak to the dealer and get them to sort the Ubigi sim. If you are going to need more data then additional data with Ubigi is expensive and most just use a 3 data sim instead, with as much data as they need.

I’m still going with the Ubigi sim and have never used all the data in a month, although it hasn’t been 100% reliable 🙄

Amazon have got the 24GB for 24 months at around £39 at the moment.
As regards usage then 1GB per month is ample using just mobile data for traffic updates and some spotify.
What does chew up data allowances is using the car as a hot spot and using the google street view on the nav.

If people have the free Ubigi and it's working ok then fine.
Prior to the Ubigi sims the "3" data only sims were the ones to go for as they work out much cheaper than adding data onto an existing contract and are plug and play with no registering or any other aggravation.

Not in UK but nonetheless I got a 5GB card and use nowhere close to all of it, in fact about 1GB a month iirc.

Thanks Ordered from Amazon. It was £45 when I last looked on there so its come down. Great!

Nearly 3 years since this thread was active, but the answer to my question was nevertheless here. MY 22 R just coming up to 2 years old and new “3” data card now ordered.

Thanks to the contributors above.

I use Smarty - £5 per month on a credit card for 5Gb of data. Not aware that I have ever gone over the allowance - you can buy a top-up as a one-off if required.

Interesting read above.
I need some help from you guys please, I also have a MY21 and am in a bit of a mess on the Nav system. I bought the car used the Nav system ran out 3 days ago and a lot of the time the Nav system has asked me to log in. This I have done not understanding that as I am told I need to set up an account, it came back with a message our fault try again later. I called Jaguar and they kindly sent me a procedure to set up an account and sort the maps for 3 years. I got all the way through the setup and got a message no Internet connection. There is a white sim in the sim card slot, bearing in mind that I'm not that up to scratch at 72 with computers can you guys give me the basic having read your posts, do I need to go out and purchase a new sim or can I sort the maps without replacing it? The car is in a garage at the bottom of the garden but the mobile phone and blue tooth work OK in the car. I would add that I have renewed in infotainment subs.
If I have understood correctly set the account up in the car and hit the 3 year subs and that is it......or is it?
Thanks in advance.

Yes you need a SIM card that provides data, as they all, pretty much do now. I bought a cheep LEBARA sim. I activated the sim in a phone and then placed it into the car. I’m,pretty sure you then have to go into the car settings on the touch screen and enable roaming data on that sim or words to that effect.
Then download the Jaguar Route planner app onto yout]r phone. Log in with the account you created. Log in on the car navigation page using same account.

It should say there’s a new update. On the phone go to Jaguar route app and settings. Select offline maps and select the map you want, I chose Europe. Wait for an hour or two for it to download, suggest you use WiFi at home enabled on the phone as it’s around 12gb (Europe map). This should now have the map in the car updated.

When a new update is out for the cars maps it will tell you on the navigation screen in the car.

Did you have to buy the 3 year subscription for the maps. Mine runs out in 3 weeks and I’ll use Android Auto and Waze for navigation rather than spend the money on the Jaguar map subscription.

I've never updated the maps in my MY18 (I run Linux which the download mismanager doesn't support), I've never logged in to the navigation system, and have never found a destination it couldn't take me to. I have a user SIM (Giffgaff) and that seems to get me the online nav data - it shows me busy traffic roads (red), or a bit busy (yellow) and tries to deviate me round what it thinks are bottlenecks. I think I logged in to the car with my InControl account details, but that was when I bought the car in mid 2018, and never since. It just works.

Thanks very much for the information, I'm not really up to speed yet but looks like I am getting there. I checked the car to see if I have a web browser which I don't which indicates I need a new data sim. I called ubigi to get a new one which they could not supply, they emailed to say my car is not eligible for their service and to contact my retailer.
Jag customer service said most data only sims will be ok.
Having sorted the car side, correct me if I'm wrong I then have to get onto a laptop having noted my details I used in the car and get onto HERE.COM buy the 3 year plan and then?????? I'll let you know.

Hi Ratboiler,
I just went through all of this .
1) the Here account will give you map updates, real time traffic info, petrol station info, parking space info, satellite display, jaguar remote. Either one year or three year depending on what you buy
2) In my case Ubigi, only gives you internet access which is required for all the functions from point 1 to work (and weather, flight tracker etc)

I was able to take over the account from the previous owner of both (they deleted his account and used my data) and then I probably went through the same procedure they have send you. Here I did with jaguar assistance, Ubigi was directly with them.
Any other data SIM should work as others have mentioned.

Nick

I get all of the above except the (free) map updates and haven't subscribed to Here. And Jaguar Remote has nothing to do with Here, that's part of the InControl subcriptions.

You're right, sorry. That's the 3rd subscription (Incontrol)
Included in the map subscription :

You don't need a data only plan? You just got the, let's say, £5/5GB 30 day sim and activated in your phone before putting it in the car?

I've only used "ordinary" phone SIMs in mine and they work fine. Currently using a GiffGaff one.

Problem I've got is that the SIM card in the car is a micro and iPhones now use nano, so I'm not sure how I would activate it! Any ideas, other than find somebody with a phone that uses a micro-sim?

Actually, just read another post where a guy says you can pop it straight into the car! I'll try that. I was worried about doing it in case it screwed everything up! ;)
