Shocking fuel consumption

I recently took a friend to Heathrow from the Southampton area and was shocked to see the round trip journey details - 122.5 miles at 34.5 mpg. Not bad for a gas guzzling V8, eh? I did pass a BMW EV that had rammed the back of an innocent ICEV, too - the future is electric.

Funnily enough, I did a recent 80 mile journey and managed 33.2mpg in a somewhat similar gas guzzling V8 (with the cruise control at erm… 70mph obviously)

It’s not what you drive.. as they say!

I regularly do 160 miles from Oxford to N Wales and frequently get 33-36mpg on that. I've even seen 40.6 when I really wasn't in a hurry.

Now and again I drive in a leisurely way, I've done a 144 mile trip averaging 61mph with fuel consumption 36mpg.

Haha - I love my F Type and drive whenever possible, but didn’t buy it for economy, nor my 4.0 straight 6 or 5:.9 v8 Jeeps
For economy the EV powered by pv from the house costs zero. Not the future, just new world :)
Longest trip of c300 mile round trip to the South cost me about £5 for a splash and dash that actually wasn’t really needed.
I also spent 2 testing a Tesco charger and represents the only costs in the first 9,000 miles
Of course not suitable for everyone and the haters will hate.

I was surprised that even when tuned to 600 hp I get around 30ish on a run. Compared to the V8 M3 of around 26mpf the Jag is great.

I didn't buy mine for economy either, but when you're constrained by busy motorway traffic and speed cameras it's surprising how frugal such a big engine can be. Away from those constraints I set my display to show instantaneous mpg and like to see how low I can get - 3mpg is the record so far.

Fuel eco...what?

The V8 lump, just doesn't have to work for general driving.
Now, compared to V8's of the past; used to run 12-14 on a good day, and Yank Tanks were something else!

Haha the small block Chevy gives me 9 mpg driving to Wales for events. Hills, villages and bends.. Taken to LPG or a trailer these days..
Just the gallon an hour off road that stings

Gallon an hour...
Shouldn't brag (have the green brigade on my back), but used to run 5 gallon+/ph back in the day on ski race boats...and that was not at WOT!
The fun factor though; off road or on the water :D

SCM, i have got to agree, i am well impressed by the mpg returns that i am getting.
Admitted most of my journeys are long, mainly through europe and i have seen returns of 30-40mpg at 70+. These are averages, so slow around the Brussels & Luxembourg ring but flowing roads between.
Even the short hops over to visit my daughters in Antwerp sees returns 30mpg+.
I still have a classic RR 3.5efi vogue which im luck to see 10-12 from [4.2 one is slightly better!]🤔
so well pleased with the jag, certainly overall on a long run👍

I'm intrigued to know what my V6 will do in that scenario. So far, I've been driving it like I stole it around Yorkshire's hills and bendy roads and fuel consumption has been a solid 21 mpg.

If you've been driving it like you stole it and only got it down to 21mpg, you're a very restrained thief!

An eco-friendly one! 😂

Have you taken it along the A169 Pickering to Whitby, past Fylingdales?
Was up there a while back for a few days - my god that’s a great open bend road!

…and yes, you need to try harder 😉

At the other end I’ve slipstreamed an hgv for about 100 miles on cruise (so before the spoiler deploys) and twice slowly edged to a decimal point over 50mpg!
Bloody mind numbingly boring and won’t be doing it again in a hurry but amazing all the same. What else comes close for the equivalent smiles per gallon ability?!

I'll be sure to add that to the list! I mostly cover the West and South Yorkshire area so between traffic, the elements and speed cameras, I get as much fun as possible and the car doesn't let you down.

Well don’t what I’m doing wrong, I have a p300 coupe and I struggle to 30 mpg! To and from work the best I get is 26 mpg 8mile journey, may as well have a V8🙄
