Service interval for low mileage car

Hi folks ,
Just wondered what other owners do regarding servicing low mileage cars .
My v6 is now at 12 months from last service and is telling me it’s due , but having covered only 3k Miles it seems a little unnecessary.
I used to service my last car every other year and am thinking of stretching this one to 18 m . No warranty remaining.
What do other owners do in this situation?

Get it serviced. Unless you’re keeping the car forever and don’t care, when selling it, you will be seriously limiting how many people will buy the car. I wouldn’t touch a car without full service history done on time, regardless of mileage. The manufacturer instructions are every 16,000 miles or 12 months. I’d stick to them...
 
Well , I’ve just spoke with local dealer. Service is £670 , that’s the bad news , the good news is that it has a service package courtesy of previous owner with one service still to come 😁 so happy days .
I shall revisit same dilemma this time next year .
My last car , Tvr Tuscan was serviced every other year and that sold without problem but point taken .
The saving is substantial tho ‘ 2014 car 18k mikes .

Check service prices on this forum, £670 doesn't seem correct, for when you have to pay next time.
JLR have special prices for older models, my last one was £340 ish.
 
My tip would be to get out and drive it more!

It's a win/win - more smiles and you don't have the low mileage service dilemma :D

EDIT:
And yes good point - be sure to ask for the fixed price service option.
If you have 2 or 3 dealers in your vicinity you can drop them all a mail and ask them to quote you.
That worked for me and I then went back to my preferred local and they price matched the best quote I'd had and threw in new key fob batteries.
 
My dealer quoted £670 last year too. If it's out of warranty, get it done by a good Jaguar independant. I paid £250 cash for a major service.

Dealers are a waste of money frankly.
 
I’d be sticking to the intervals irrelevant of mileage (ie every year)

Whilst independents are great and often better, I’d pay that little extra for the jag stamp. Agree with the others, shop around for best quote

I have same age as you, 13k miles, next service is the big one with spark plugs - after an open chat to my local dealer they said forget the plugs and will do oil and all filters for £325. That’s still overpriced but didn’t think it was too bad
 
Another vote for the independent - better service at half the price. ;)
And mine does what's necessary, not just what's on the schedule - dealers do it by the book, which isn't always enough.

Just had my 5-Year service (car done 18k) which was supposed to include plugs. Dealer charged £400.00 for oil & filter. Happy with that but will ask them to change plugs next year. This will be an additional £400.00 😳

Had a good char with my normal garage who look after my van. That said they’d use OEM parts at far less than Jaguar would charge. They also said Jaguar mechanics are probably 17 year old apprentices doing oil/filter changes. However, my car is my pride & joy I like the idea of it being maintained by Jaguar 🤔

Agree David sticking to service schedule regardless of miles 👍
 
More miles to justify service, that’s definitely the best option, I shall have to work on that .
The service did include spark plugs but I assumed that was part of a standard basic service .
Told it was 2 hrs with oil , filters and plugs .
So oil at say £40 for full synth , filters at £20
Plugs £45 so about £110 for parts that leaves £560 or £280 / hour.
I know those shiny glass fronted showrooms cost a packet to run but I shall take your advice and shop around next year . But as this years service is apparently already paid for ‘happy days’ ! 😎
 
Normally jag labour is around the £140-150/hr mark

You’d be surprised how much they will charge just for oil - more towards the £100 mark!

The 0W20 oil is a lot more than £40, and the plugs are a lot more than £45. You're not dealing with a Ford Prefect! ;)

I was very surprised at the cost on my first V6 XE ..................£140 !
Needless to say on the second V6 at service time I walked in with my own supply which was £90 and that was the Castrol full fat stuff.
Since then Fuchs, Motul and Millers are now doing the right spec stuff even cheaper.
Although I hear the spec has recently changed again :roll:
