Serious lack of F types in Monaco

On holiday in the South of France so went to Monaco (sadly flew so the Jag is home under cover in my garage) and albeit some serious machinery, I was disappointed to only find one FType. Love the custom G wagon

Did you see the Aston Martin Valkyrie there?
That's pretty special!
I saw plenty of Abarths and classic Fiat 500s during my last couple of visits. Other than that it was either nondescript cars or really, really top end cars. There's little in the middle there and unfortunately our Jags fall between those posts. There's very little space and very little option to enjoy the performance in that little place, so I guess those that are there and want to show off have the money for some truly exclusive cars.
The road to Nice is a handy one. I'd love to take my car from the South of France, via Monaco and on the way into Northern Italy, around the coast.

Yeah the F-Type really is quite rare on the continent, also in places like Monaco. You should bring your F-Type next time. Monaco itself is obviously rubbish driving wise but there's loads of amazing roads just outside the city in the mountains.

You definitely should. I've done that a fair few times and the motorway along the Italian riviera is arguably one of the nicer motorway stretches in the world, as I think Harry Metcalfe once pointed out.

MajorTom, it's on the list. One day!

I've been driven there and I've explored Monaco on foot and via taxi, but I haven't had the pleasure of driving myself. I think I'd get to the casino, get the obligatory photos there, maybe have a little mooch in the shops and the park near there. I'd then drop right into the bottom of town and snake up Avenue Princesse Grace and back out of dodge, onwards to Menton and then Italy. Probably like every other does!

We’ve been here before. First time without the kids now they are grown up. Used to have an e class estate which I would drive us and tons of gear to Frejus , St.Tropez, St.Maxime and love the coastal roads. Whenever we stayed in Nice though like this time we flew. It’s not worth it as you can’t get anywhere at more than 10mph with all the traffic. Monaco is worse so we get the coast train. The only vehicle I’d attempt to use in Monaco would be an electric scooter! Didn’t see the Valkyrie but last time here saw La Ferrari with a Qatar plate before I knew it existed. I believe as said, the F type sits in the middle and I’m happy for that. It comes to something when you’re in Monaco and no longer give a second glance at Ferraris or Lamborghinis.

Agreed, you do lose interest in many cars if you own an F-Type. And yes, apart from that it's nice to drive through the tunnel and other parts of the F1 track, Monaco is best experienced on foot. That way you also get a better car spotting experience. Driving through town is usually ok but parking there is usually not a very nice experience. I've literally had kerbing nightmares about parking in their underground car parks although I've somehow miraculously managed parking larger Jags than my F-Type in them. :D

Fully agree about the coastal roads around there too. Lovely but too packed. Except off season the whole coastal part of the central riviera including Nice is rather rubbish... too much traffic, too messy, too much post-Soviet cleptocrats etc. I've scouted most of the French mediterranean coast during many years and find the parts at the far west and far east the best.

The Maybach is absolutely gopping🤢and hasn’t aged well at all. The last time I was in Monaco I saw a new Tesla Roadster and Ford GT40…the year being 2006

Definitely agree further east or west are better drives. Flew into Marseilles a few years back when Paul Ricard opened to F1 again. Flew with a mate and our two daughters who share a passion for F1. Rented a villa which should have been nearish to the circuit and rented a car at the airport. Aside from the utter carnage caused by poor communication leading it to take us 5 hours to get out of the circuit and back after qualifying, the mountain roads down toward the coast were jaw droppingly good. Sadly our rental was a severely beat up Corsa which didn’t inspire confidence to push around the bends. If I could only convince my wife to pack light, I’d love to take the Ftype down there. That sadly, is going to take a miracle😬

Miracles can happen. :) It's amazing how much you can get even into a convertible boot with the right soft bags and it's so nice to be down there in an F-Type. I'm heading down again in a few months when things have calmed down there to among other things spend some time on these magic roads close to Monaco (spot the F-Type ;) ).

Wow that’s an awesome pic. Reminds me of the journey we had as a family in my fathers company cortina in the 70’s down to Monaco before the traffic got hideous

Ah, all this talk about Monaco brings back some great memories. Rode my Fireblade to Dubrovnik this particular year, criss-crossing the Alps on my way. Did all those wonderful roads just above Nice and Monaco and found myself at the entrance to the F1 tunnel.

Blatted through holding onto first gear around 12,000 rpm and could see people's heads turning as I exited, probably thinking a rogue F1 car was hacking through

Just a big kid at heart 😜

Nice one! I can see now why you appreciate the sound of the V6 F-Type. .P Might be expensive to do something like that these days... I think the local police is sometimes on the lookout for noisy vehicles in the tunnel.
