Sell or keep?

Hello everyone,
Long time Ftype owner (2015 original)

I wonder what is the long term value of an F is these days and if there is any milage in keeping it or selling it.

Given that Jag has went in a new direction are the cars holding there value now and worth keeping hold of or is it best to sell it while there is still some value in the market (even a heavy loss).

Mine has been in storage for over 5 years and kept in immaculate condition and storage.
Am now considering what I should do with it.
I love the car to bits and dont really want to get rid of it but do wonder if its time too.

Anyone else in the same boat or got some advice on what I should do with it ?

Our V8 is our fourth car and effectively just a toy, I didn't buy it for an investment instead because it makes the day I use it a better day.
I do not expect it to increase in value nor do i really care, I also think earlier RWD versions (excl. specials) would be the ones to increase in value as the days of 500bhp driven through the rear axle have likely gone. Anything of that power nowadays will generally be AWD.

Saying all that I have no idea, nor does anybody tbh, what the market will look like in 10years .... bargain basement for ICE (I hope so!) or very expensive.

The fact you are asking likely answers your question, storage and maintenance costs I suspect will outstrip any increase in value.
As an example, sensible mileage early V8 cabs trade around low 20s which I think is the bottom for the next couple of years.

If you are waiting for it to appreciate in value it’s going to be a long wait. With most current modern classics it’s some 25-40 years before values become positive. Personally think the F type will have potential but possibly for the rarest models in the range.

Thanks for all your feed back. Food for thought.
Think I will hold on to it for another year and see how the land lies then.
Like most, I bought it outright and the value is not really the issue.
I could afford it then and not really looking to make anything from it.

Owning it is enough :)
Its a great toy that I cant seem to let go, or want too either.

Actually makes me proud to have an old school Jag instead of the drivel they are about to spew out.
(Just my opinion)

Thanks again

Jagman.

From my experience I instantly regretted selling the Jag. I had a V6S soft top which I loved but have always found I got an itch for something else after a few years. I traded it for TTRS and although you could argue it’s mostly a better car on paper it just wasn’t the same. After the 2 years was up with the TT i did consider various M cars or a 718 etc but there is something special about the F-Type. I think the mix of looks, sound, super-charger vs turbo (which for me is a big win) just makes it stand out compared to everything else in the price bracket.

I am now back in a P450 Coupe and have decided this is it now for the long run!

I'd only sell mine if there was something better that appealed to me. Don't think that's going to happen - I shall be buried in mine!

Fact it’s been stored five years suggests to me I would sell it.

Cannot see any F-Type ever increasing in value in 10, 20, 30 years. Demographic of most current owners is 40/50+. Won’t be the same pull to own one as there is, for example, 1970’s & 80’s RS Fords. Which are fetching bonkers money from 50 somethings with spare cash.

Saying that my pride & joy is SORN’d l & hibernating. But only till March when it will emerge & the pleasure it gives me, driving it out on a sunny weekend morning, is priceless.

These cars will be future classics, that’s a guarantee. Will they ever appreciate? Who knows, but I imagine that once upon a time people asked similar questions about their ‘65 Mustangs.

Get it out of storage and drive it. You then won’t care what it’s worth now or in the future and you won’t want to sell it ;)

Well perhaps we should be glad that Jaguar haven't got a lot of unsold F-Types else they might have done what they have just done with the I-Pace, dumped about 200 Brand New cars on Autotrader with a whopping £32000 discount, think what that would do to depreciation!

Thing is Jaguar did just that with the F type around 8 months ago they sold or made a Synter dealership chain buy up the remaining pre registered F types with 1 owner but only 10-20 miles 4-6 weeks old for 65K
