Persistent Low Battery Warning on F-Type P300

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get some advice or insight here, as I’m running out of options.

I recently purchased a 2021 F-Type P300 and from day one, I’ve been plagued by the infamous low battery warning issue. I did a fair bit of research on the forum and tried all the common suggestions – took it to the dealer, had the battery tested, and was told the battery is fine. Apparently, it's a known issue with F-Types and the recommendation was just to keep it charged regularly.

So I picked up a Ctek MXS 5.0 trickle charger, hooked it up, and have been keeping the car on charge whenever it’s parked. Seemed like a workaround, but not ideal.

We had a long road trip coming up – over 3000 miles through Europe – and I figured a fresh battery might be the long-term fix. Got a new battery installed and properly coded to the car. After a 10+ hour drive, guess what? The low battery warning popped up again.

To make it more frustrating, the hazard triangle warning light switches off after about 3 minutes, but it's clear that something’s still not right. The car is currently out of warranty, so I’m hesitant to go down a rabbit hole of expensive diagnostics without knowing what I’m up against.

Has anyone had any real fix for this issue? Is it likely something deeper like a module drain or software fault? Or am I stuck living with a tender as a permanent accessory?

Any suggestions or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue, tried everything bar a new battery. I've just started ignoring it, it has no effect on the car or starting or how it runs.
If I forget to disable stop / start it will start to function once the car is warm and the battery is getting enough charge.
Having said that, if you do find a solution please post it.

If you haven't already done so, it’s worth checking the earth connections shown here...https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=61772#p61772
Start off with the easiest first (Battery negative earth connection on boot floor) and see if that fixes the issue? The following link shows a good photo of the earth points on the boot floor...https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=90087#p90087

A battery/system reset can also cure many F-Type electrical issues...https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=80075#p80075

Thanks for sharing your experience - I’ll definitely post an update if I find a solution.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this.

I'll definitely check the earth connections and hopefully this will fix the issue.

Do you double or single lock the car? Only single locking can cause battery issues.

I’ve always just double-locked the car since I bought it, so that shouldn't be an issue. Also, no 'hazard triangle' on after 3-5 minutes.

I have seen this a few times on my P300 even from new when setting things up on the infotainment etc it would come up with a battery low warning, also last winter when it sat on the CTEK for about 10 weeks car started fine ,but again battery low warning which even came back up after a 100km drive. As thee battery is nearly eight years old thought it might be time for a replacement however I did a regen on the battery with the CTEK afterwards measured the battery voltage which was 12.83 volts which is correct for an AGM battery type. This was five months ago and have had no low battery warnings since. I don’t know the voltage threshold when this alarm is generated ,but it does appear quite sensitive.

have you checked the car is charging the battery?

The CTEK MXS 5.0 instructions do state that the recondition setting (Car, AGM and Recond symbols all illuminated) should be used on the battery “once per year and after deep discharge to maximise lifetime and capacity.” Unless the OP has already done this it’s definitely worth trying.
