I am getting ready to book my second service, I could not buy a service package as the car was a demo so registered 3 months before I got it <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley18.gif" border="0" alt="Ouch" title="Ouch" /><div><br></div><div>I am being quoted £565 £528 and £500 Itsa bit crazy because if I had a 5 year old 5.0 XK a big service is £299.</div><div>Anyone had a good price and good service for their second service?</div>

2nd service<br /><br />Its really important to check what they are doing to the vehicle.<br /><br />I called up two seperate dealers and both of them were going to change the brake fluid on a non carbon brake car, this shouldnt happen.....this takes £100+ of the service cost. Also they are charging for 7 1/2 litres of engine oil yet owners manual says 7.25 litres. Its also worth checking cost of oil per litre with their parts department, both of these dealers overcharged for the oil, so present them with the cost of oil from their own parts department...they should then knock that off the bill

It is a real shame ownership of our cars is so hit and miss dependant on the standard of the dealership. If only they were all as good as the best or at least pretty close, it seems some of them are making it up as they go along or are not aware of what the specific requirments are and charging highest price regardless.<div>I am thinking of going independant once the warranty is out.</div>

Wow.....My 380ps 3.0 litre cost £375.61 (including VAT) for it's second service. That included 7 litres of oil at a cost of £106.75. It also included oil & pollen filters and a few other items.<div><br></div><div>I cant understand how a V8 can be that much more?</div>

That's a very reasonable price I would bemore than happywith that or slightly more being as it is a V8. Where is your dealer located?

How important is it to F Type owners to have a dealer service a car?<div><br></div><div>I had my XF serviced for three years at a Jag garage with a free service plan but would I choose to use them again, for the money no. The last service I had the garage asked me if I wanted to have my badly worn brakes and discs changed at a cost of £1500. I said no and took that to a skilled garage mechanic who charged me £220 to get my brakes back up to standard.</div><div><br></div><div>What is it you are getting from a dealer mechanic that you won't get from a trusted local?</div><div><br></div><div>I understand that they can update software on the car but their skills seem to be otherwise very limited.</div>

<div>Jaguar do not insist on an approved dealer servicing the car in order to keep the standard warranty.</div><div>

Yes I posted a similar thing on the first service thread but it would be nice tokeep it all Jaguar if possible. The price differences seem hard to justify and the difference in customer service I have seen is shocking for a premium brand. I am happy to pay a fair price but to feel your having the mickey taken beggars belief.<div>I am considering my local independant as an realistic option.</div>

Do in independent Jag specialists have access to the Jag online history servers so they can update the cars' history with Jag?

I am now sorted for my second service and the next 2 after that as well. I rang several dealers and had prices from £504 to £586 from those that bothered to return my call and several did not return my call even after I called them a second time. I tried to get a service plan quote from the dealers that I did speak to but mainly I was told sorry we can not do that, although one was going to price it up and get back to me and I am still waiting. I called Taylors or Great Dunmow who were very helpful and got straight back to me with a price for a plan that I could pay over 15 months or up front in one lump sum. The plan covers my second third and fourth services for the total price of £1076.26 naturaly I have purchased the plan straight away and my car is booked in for the second service on 5 April all paid for within the plan. With the prices I have been told to expect for the next 3 services it appears to be a saving of around £600 over the 3 year period. I spoke to a very helpful lady called Chloe who told me I could take my car to any Jaguar dealer for a service with the plan so no restrictions to have your car done at Taylors, however do double check if you do buy this plan for your own peace of mind.<img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" alt="Big smile" title="Big smile" />

<div> </div><div>Very common complaint amongst owners. The oil sumps are different shapes on the AWD and RWD model and thus require differing amounts of oil; You can't expect the retailers to realise that...can you? <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley2.gif" height="17" width="17" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /></div>
