Scratched windows (again)

When I first got my F-type it had the usual scratched windows issue. Some one (or several people) kindly sent me some links to where I could get the replacement waists / rubber bits that everywhere else in the world are recalls. However when I've tried to use the links, there doesn't seem to be anything active / I can't buy new waists. I admit I don't really want to have to pay £100+ for some bits of rubber, but I really should get it sorted. Can anyone add a link to where I can buy them? When I tried my local Jag dealer they refused to help because I wasn't the original owner of the car.........

I'm pretty sure the scratches are >25µm in depth (you can feel them with your fingernails), so not sure of the success of polishing them out when I do get some rubber bits. And did any of you replace the glass, or get say autoglass to try and polish the scratches out?

thanks in advance :)

Any advice about the start / stop capacitor - it always surprises me that it charges up if I take my car for a long drive (like to Normandy), but it's losing charge somewhere, so only seems to work there.

And - something I don't understand - my car doesn't seem to have dual zone climate control, even if it came with the dual zone buttons......I saw an upgrade somewhere for £300 - but it seems weird it just isn't there.

Sadly my brother kerbed my F-type when we were in France two weeks ago, so now I have to get an alloy refurb, and a new tyre (as he took chunks out of it). It still is fun to drive, and it got a lot of admiring looks and comments when we were on holiday, which is really nice :)

My example is a Italian Racing Red, MY16 (16 plate), V6 S, currently @ 60k miles, owned for 3 years.

I highly recommend period cleaning of the waist belts with a toothbrush and warm soapy water - it’s amazing how cruddy they get.
I’ve posted before with photos but think it’s just the one screw in the end of the door - maybe behind a rubber cover - then lift up that end and slide backwards.

Thanks for the reply , I've cleaned them a couple of times (but not a toothbrush!) - do you or anyone else have a link to where I could buy the uprated ones?

I also need to polish the windows / get new glass, as it's one of the things that lets the car down.

Just had this happen on my side! It is just part n parcel of having an F type as the curved shape does lean itself toward getting tiny bits of dirt into the tiny gap there. If it's extremely minor, it often isn't necessary to change the windows (unless you have scratched ALL the way up.......)

These links give the details that you require. You can either buy the parts direct from Jaguar or try ebay etc...

Outer waist seals (Coupe): https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/part/id/152.1075.2428.11358/brand/jaguar/

Outer waist rails (Convertible): https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/part/id/152.1075.2428.11351/brand/jaguar/

Inner waist seals: https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/hierarchy/id/152.1079.2461/brand/jaguar/

Door glass: https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/hierarchy/id/152.1079.2459/brand/jaguar/

If you can feel the door window glass scratches with your fingernail you won’t be able to polish them out so you’ll either have to put up with them or get a new window glass fitted. The glass appearance may look a bit better by using Autoglym car glass polish on it...

I had a new right-hand side door window glass and waist seal fitted by Jaguar a few years ago but even so a few scratches on the glass are now visible. Whenever I wash the car (mostly by hand) I make a point of getting any crud out from the waist seals. I’ll be removing the seals soon to give them a deep clean!
