Sat Nav gone crazy

My Sat Nav doesn't know where I am. The other day it had me driving on a railway line which I definitely wasn't and today I was driving on the A1 north of London and the screen was showing that I was on road between Rotherham & Sheffield! <br />Anyone else experienced location problems with their Sat Nav?<br />

Yes just recently mine has been acting up and taking me very strange routes and even to the wrong location twice. <br /><br />Found it seems to be worse in city centres at times. <br /><br />Any one else ??

Try turning on the ignition and leave the car sat for around 10 minutes or so stationary. <div><br></div><div>Sometimes this problem occurs if the nav system cannot resolve the constellation of satellites that are currently in view, and being a stationary, gives the system time to build up a 'model' of where it is.</div>

I have a lot more experience on boat navigation systems but they will operate in exactly the same way. If your sat nav hasnt been used for a while or if the internal battery has failed, it needs to download from the first satellite an almanac of other satellites it should see on this day and this year etc. That can take some time. Meanwhile it can give a wrong location os simply an inaccurate one. <br><br>It could also be that you have some spurious interference, a failing ignition coil for example. The signal strength from the satellites is weak and easily masked by other signals nearby<br>

I have occasionally experienced that problem with my old Garman satnav. It usually sorts itself out if I switch it off and on again, then re-calculate route.<br><br>Haven't found this problem on the Jag's system...yet...<br>

Mine is a 2013 car and is now really due a sat nav update - i just can't stomach the ripoff prices for the update - silly money. Especially as the updates are usually 1 or 2 years old data anyway.<div><br></div><div>No problems with getting a GPS lock with the onboard satnav, in fact i'm amazed how quick it is - (gets perfect lock in the garage too). I just think the updates should be part of a service.</div><div><br></div><div>A standard module in all cars that you could plug a hidden garmin or tom-tom module of some sort would be best - you could take it between cars.</div>

I use my iPhone as a SatNav. When I was told the price for the SatNav (a £3000) option here in Switzerland and the price of updates I did not take the option. I do not regret it

According to my local dealer this appears to be a problem affecting a number of Jag models (F-Pace, XF) and being blamed on the Infotainment system. My car threw the same wobbly two weeks ago deciding that I was somewhere in Warwickshire when in fact I was in the Portsmouth area. Eventually, the dealership had the car in for 8 hours (having failed to log my original booking with them) on Tuesday. At 7pm that evening they returned the car repaired (according to them), but with my location somewhere near Market Harborough............. I live in Wiltshire!!<div>Having already been stranded 2 months earlier for 4 hours by a major electrical failure I was less than impressed by the reliability of my F-Type and hot footed it back to the dealership to present them with a little piece of my mind (albeit frazzled by this point)................ Two hours of sat around lounging in some very uncomfortable leather chairs failed to resolve the issue................ which now appears to be a known software problem that Jaguar can't fix. Patch number 10 failed to make any improvement to my car. In fact I now have a non-functioning Jaguar Remote system. The remote system now thinks the car is in Hampshire and it will take 12 hours 30 mins to travel the 39 miles distance from my home to retrieve it. The remote start function no longer works now as it thinks the window is open!!</div><div>I would suggest taking it back to your dealership and ignoring any of their advice to let the car sit for 20 minutes or any other weird suggestions they come up with and insist on a hardware replacement as the garage will most likely tell you that they have no idea when they will get the next patch from Jaguar.</div><div>Apologies for the rant and waffling. Just venting a bit of frustration.</div><div>Would be interested to know of others who are experiencing the same problems. My next course of action will be to speak direct to CRC. Is there any point?</div>

Hi

I have EXACTLY the same problem. My sat nav thinks I am in the north sea and Jaguar remote still thinks I am in Norwich and says that because the car has not been used for 48 hours it has gone to sleep and will wake up next time I start the car. That was 4 months ago! Finally got the car booked in to a dealership today so I really hope that they can fix it. I also have a different time on the clock in the display above the steering wheel which is still on BST. Fingers crossed it get sorted today. Not great for a car that costs so much money!!

The problem with mine was the Aerial, after few visits to the dealers they tried swapping the aerial with another car they had in the work shop and all was OK. So they ordered and fitted a new aerial to mine and everything has worked well since.

I don't bother with in car sat navs. Google Maps or Waze are very good and are continually being updated with road changes. Notifications of, and where necessary, diversion around hazards, holdups, roadworks, broken down vehicles, police, speed cameras, etc. happen in real time. And, it will take you to the door of your destination 99% of times.

Got my car back yesterday and not yet fixed as the dealership also said it needs a new aerial which was not in stock. Got to wait until next weekend now to have it fitted so will hope that this also fixes the problem - strange!!

Join the club!! I have exactly the same problem. I have been quoted just under £300. to replace the GPS pod. My car is just out of warranty.
