Road trip holiday 2023

Good afternoon all!

I am planning to drive to Monaco and back summer 2023. This is just the start of my planning, I'm getting all my info together (I see Route Napoleon comes up time and time again!)

I would be very grateful if you could share tips, tricks, routes, hotels or any other advice for me.

I've had a look through SimpleR's 2018 plans and I'll see if I can make any of it work, was there anything you would change?

I'm thinking 1 week to 10 days, though that's not fixed. I don't mind crossing into other countries, definitely doesn't just need to be in France.

Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Come along? So far it's my F Type and a friends GT3 :D

Get a Crit'air sticker so you don't need to worry if you stray into a clean air zone.
Also get a telepeage, using toll gates in a right hand drive car can't be fun, not easy for passenger either as car is so low down.
Hi-viz jackets behind the seats, warning triangle in the boot, first aid kit also in some eu countrys.
Going to switzerland? get a motorway vignette.

French auto routes are wonderful, easy to use, not much triffic, gets you from A - B quickly but BORING, get a tourist road atlas which has the scenic roads highlighted and plan your route to take some of these in.
Going to monaco I would look at the N85 route napoleon, heard its great, never been myself.

Oh and stick to the speed limits, speed traps everywhere and fines are expensive.

Just the video for you...

Hi we did Nice then on to Tuscany in the summer.

Highly recommend Route Napoleon amazing road and not a lot of traffic .

I would consider a look and trying to come back via Germany. Get a bit of Autobahn in. Recommend Baden Baden.

Two point made earlier.

1.Clean air cert needed for Grenoble le start of Route Napoleon 5 ish euros
2 Telepage pass for French tolls. If you look on Euro tunnel website they have a link. It’s £20 deposit

Any specific questions feel free to PM. Not an expert but done it a couple of times.

Thanks guys!

Darren do you have an excel spreadsheet kinda breakdown of your trip I could have a look at please?

I’m also mindful of trying to not fit too much in! Want to visit some vineyards and do something out of the car lol.

I see rac charged you £192, Green flag offer european breakdown for £80, covers unlimited trips for a year.

If you think the UK eurotunnel linked telepeage company is a bit expensive I recommend ATMB, they charge 14 Eur one off and the 1.90 Eur per month but only for months where you actually use it. Link below.
https://www.atmb.com/telepeage-tarifs/nos_abonnements_telepeage_atmb/le-voyageur-offre-telepeage-gratuit-sans-engagement/
Crucially they let you sign up with a credit card so no french bank account required.

Be careful with Green flag. I was with them. If you read T&c’s it’s debatable if they will repatriate your car if it can’t be repaired. If I remember right there was a recovery cash limit. I switched to RAC as it will pay up to value of car.

Yes I just checked it out, the RAC cover does look more comprehesive.

No map I just used Waze and went point to point

1st day left Kent lunchtime and used euro tunnel. Then 3 hrs to Reims.
2nd day drove to Grenoble 6 hrs
3rd day 7 hours to Nice via Route Napoleon

Then 2 days in Nice stayed in stunning hotel Boscolo.
6th day Nice to Montepulciano Tuscany 7hrs stayed in Villa Cicolina. Stayed 4 days.
10th day drove to lake Lugano Switzerland 6hrs
11 th day drove to Baden Baden Germany stayed two days.
Then home.

Ps Harry Garage u tube has loads of drives down South of France and beyond worth a watch. Harry Metcalfe is really knowledgeable.
