Retrofit SIM slot?

In short I went to the dealer for the infotainment update and smartphone pack installation. The first of course was no issue (and free) but Carplay couldn't be installed. I recall reading somewhere your car needs to have wifi capability for Carplay (although I don't understand why it's required).
My car is a later 2019 but doesn't have a SIM slot in the cubby hole so no WIFI.

Anyone care to shed some light on how this is possible? Does it have something to do with legislations in some countries?
Could it be retrofitted or will the car probably not have a the WIFI antenna either?

The dealer is (as expected) clueless :D
I don't really care about Carplay but what I miss a lot is traffic avoidance for the GPS in this congested country.

Thanks,
Nick

What country are you in? (Worth while adding a signature). What MY are you?

If you are UK then PM me your reg and I'll have a look and see what I can find out.

Thank you for the offer, I just added some info.
The car was made for Gibraltar but ended up in Belgium ;)
I did check Topix and there are a lot of Less's on the build sheet.

He has filled in his location (right of his post!) ;)
Agree about the sig for car details, though.

I too do not have a sim slot. The other day while driving with sat nav on it gave a warning of an accident ahead so I know it is live. However I do have the 2 roof buttons for police & assistance.

There is a Jaguar SIM buried deep within the car to do the tracking and some other stuff.

Yes, I don't have the emergency buttons either. So far I never had a warning op upcoming traffic jams so it might be related

Had a quick look. I've not seen a car build which has less telematics on the build sheet. This is the inbuilt connectivity and nor does it state anywhere how you would fit it or parts required. As it would probably require wiring looms and hardware and software updates to enable it I would suggest the price if it is possible would be not be worth it.

In Dutch we have a proverb for this " Goedkoop is duurkoop " , translates kind of : ".. buying on the cheap gets expensive.. " .
Would not be surprised if this proverb excists in Belgium too..

Just wondering if Gibraltar does not have the infrastructure to deal with the assist & Em service etc.

Yes that was what I figured, no telematics. I can only think that it has something to do with the destination country.
Funny buy cheap comments :) Get a 76k€ spec car with the options I wanted for the price of a base model with no option what so ever was a easy logical decision for me. The local dealer was happy to see me come in for maintenance even if they didn't sell me the car. This will pay off when I'm trading up.
Ok, ok I don't have the carplay or traffic warning assistance but the later will let me enjoy the car even longer when I hit a traffic jam :)

A couple of Euros and you might still be able to buy a paper map... Look for some alternative twisty routes to avoid the traffic Jams 😉
