Replacing LED headlamps with pre 2018 facelift Xenons

There's plenty of discussion elsewhere about problems with post 2018 facelift headlamps.

I'm looking at options right now having had the usual nearside daylight running lamp fail. Main issue for me is that even after swapping the headlamp out it seems there is a reasonable chance it will fail again.

At £3k+ a headlamp that's not sustainable. This gives me a problem as my plan was to keep running my 2018 F Type until either it dies or I die.

So...it's a long shot, but I wondered if anybody had tried and succesfully retrofitted pre face lift Xenon headlamps to a post 2018 facelift F Type ?

Either that or any informed comments on whether this would be feasible ?
 
This is probably a stupid idea, but can the good side running lamp be dimmed cheaply to match the other side? Then headlights on all the time.
 
Just a rather uninformed comment but I remember seeing somewhere that someone considered changing to pre faclift xenons but it didn't seem possible... completely different wiring etc. And there doesn't seem to be any way to affect the intensity of the DRL to dim a fully working one.
 
OK thanks, I think I sort of expected this to be the case.

Yeah...not keen on dimming the good side to match the bad as I expect the bad side will get worse.

Any chance of after market ever producing a headlamp ? !!.....or should I just start planning my '2018 Jaguar FType garden feature' stuffing the carcass of my once premium sports car with daffodils and gnomes ?
 
I personally think there will be a solution sooner or later, probably in terms of a fix or some aftermarket kit rather than Valeo and JLR owning up. After all this is old technology and no rocket science so it wouldn't surprise me if a Chinese manufacturer came up with a replacement light at a fraction of the JLR price.

Keep an eye on that facebook group to get the most up to date info on this. If the DRL annoys you now, perhaps try running with the headlights permanently on.

Even if possible then it would likely constitute an MOT advisory or failure. Given it's c2018 cars that have the issue, then in MOT scope now.

Under the DRL section of MOT rules:

Defect Category
(a) Lamp:

(i) emitted colour, position or intensity not in accordance with the requirements - Minor
(ii) showing red light to the front, white light to the rear or has heavily reduced light intensity - Major

I'm sure I've seen it on this forum as an advisory on an MOT
 
If anyone has a failed unit that would be going in the bin (I'm not taking on the responsibility of repairing a unit that someone wants/needs back) I wouldn't mind taking a look at one and finding a fix. I imagine it's just a case of replacing the LED's or a circuit component at the cost of a couple of quid. If I can find a fix I'd publish a guide and return the repaired unit back to the sender.

It seeems to be a bit more complicated than that. Check out the FB group for more details. There was a chap on there who had taken a light apart and seemingly found the issue which IIRC was something about discolouration and possibly dislocation of some tiny lighting rod component.
 
I see... I guess someone has tried to approach valeo to see if they might sell the parts at source? Bit of a rubbish design really. Obviously the joint in the light tube isn't clean enough and it's overheating. Strange it's LH only. Makes me think that component placement or something causes a tighter bend radius or something.
