Recharging a flat battery using the Ctek mxs 5.0

I'm about to embark on fitting a CTEK charger using a comfort lead.

I have the link to the useful guide somebody did here.

https://howtune.com/articles/548-install-the-battery-charger-on-a-2016-jaguar-f-type

Only question is...at point (3) are they talking about disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery ?, or are they talking about disconnecting the negative black cable that is attached to the body of the car (see phot above point 3 in the guide).

Moreover, did other people completely disconnect the batteries main positive and negative connections before doing anything else for the sake of safety ?

No need to disconnect the battery just be careful when you're fitting the CTEK leads. Do the positive first, and for the negative I used the boot floor earth point that the battery lead is connected to - just hold the battery cable down firmly to maintain contact as you remove the nut to fit the CTEK black lead.

Thanks.

I'm struggling to get hold of a CTEK charger right now.

In the meantime is there any reason I couldn't just attach a normal battery charger to the positive and negative points indicated in the link ?

So ...positive to bus bar and negative to the chassis ?

Should be fine. The CTEK (or equivalent) is recommended as people can leave it connected "for ever" while the car is not being used.

Jaguar recommends removing the battery to charge in case the charger fries any of the car's modules. If you do remove the battery, make sure the boot is unclosable or you'll struggle to reopen it.

Resurrecting an old thread for some advice. I've had a low battery warning so plugged in the CTEK MXS 3.0 using the connector connecting to the busbar as per the helpful info here and on AGM mode.

It's been on the half-battery amber light since Friday afternoon. The battery wasn't flat so curious if anyone has any guidance on how long it should take to go green. I'm aware that the CTEK is more of a long term maintenance type charger rather than a traditional charger but I had thought it would have charged over 48 hours

Thanks in advance

I'm probably asking something that's covered in the thread.
Is it possible to place a battery maintainer on the points under the bonnet instead of geting to the physical battery in the boot ?
thanks

Here is the charging sequence/times. MXS 3.0, Typo maybe is it a 5.0?

Yes it will charge through the points using the charger’s clamp fittings.

How old is the battery? Not sure what you mean by amber light - is that the CTEK connector with green, amber and red lights? My battery is over 7 years old and I get the green as soon as I connect the charger, and it never takes longer than "overnight" (~12 hours?) to get fully charged.

Hey all
Doing the Ctek mx5 install next week, ive got a v6 2018 coupe and just wanted some reassurance that this is the correct places to wire the red positive and black neutral.
I bought the comfort panel so im guessing it replaces where the standard Ctek lead goes and replaces it but wired up in the same place?
Im aware there are different images of where to put the wiring on different F Types, 4 pot, v6, v8, convertable etc
These are the pics I got from an online guide here
https://howtune.com/articles/548-install-the-battery-charger-on-a-2016-jaguar-f-type

I circled the positive and negative positions in blue, although it looks like a child drew the circles 😀

Any confirmation greatly appreciated

I have it in the exact same spot on my 2017 V6S for the last 3 years. (No issues at all with CTek and comfort panel on the side of the boot, just watch the cable when you close the lid)

Cheers Chris that's great to hear you've got it the same way and its the same car/spec (although mine isn't the S)

Incidentally did you disconnect the battery before attaching the wires or leave it connected, some say you should and some say its fine to do it connected?
Im in the camp that it should be fine to leave the battery connected as your only attaching connectors that aren't plugged into anything.

Thanks again for the confirmation mate 👌🏻👍🏼🍻

I didn't disconnect anything when I fitted mine, but I did make sure to hold the battery's earth cable down firmly so it didn't lose contact while I fitted the CTEK connector.

Ah, I see you're not using that earthing point.

Did as scm said, so battery was still connected. (And he made a good point about holding the earth cable in place when you lose the nut or else it might jump off.
Here is a picture of mine since they seem to look different from car to car.

i just can't see how connecting two cables which aren't live (as I won't have them connected to the charger 😀) can need the battery being disconnected.
Yes il go to the negative point in the pic 🤞🏻👍🏼

Il take the top tip as well about holding the negative connector down firmly if I do have to run it off of there 👌🏻🍻

Cheers for the pic Chris 👍🏼

Thets really helpful because as you say they all do seem to differ 👍🏼

Il be running the comfort sensor but its the same red and black wires, I guess il see from the lights on that if its wired up correctly as it will either indicate how the battery is doing or if ive wired it up wrong it won't 😀🙈👌🏻👍🏼
