Hello.

Is everyone else’s rear camera quality absolute s**te!?

Were the newer models equipped with a better quality camera? And could I swap mine out? It’s terrible.

 :?

Yes, the later ones have slightly improved resolution. Particularly noticeable improvement in poor light conditions e.g. dark/sunglare (not sure if it's due to a better camera or screen though).

Shouldn't be that bad (assuming it's not just low sun shining straight at it)..

My 2013 car was the same. Annoying, but just used my mirrors.

It's a bumper off job to replace, so never got round to it.

Mine is nowhere near as bad as yours. Perfectly usable.

I did however have to change it on an MY18 Evoque recently and the result is now perfect clarity and resolution. Identical to my daughters MY22 Velar.

Evoque used exactly the same camera as the F Type MY14 and cost is only £130 for new from LR supplier on eBay, so not cost prohibitive.
Failure in the Evoque was similar to yours and caused by water in the camera and eventual failure on cold wet mornings. Used to start again if parked in the sun for the day..

Thanks for your input cj10jeeper!

Don’t suppose you know which camera it was that you replaced it with? Be good to know part number / which one!

Might take it to my local dealer and see what they think about it. Try and get a part number / quote from them…

I purchased T2R24086 Also referenced as JX5139G590JD for Jaguar F type and E pace
Cost Ā£135 and now residing in my Evoque. Same camera but different JLR part numbers which was priced at Ā£400…

Biggest thing with JLR cameras is the pin connector. Mine needed the 6 pin which is a block of 4 and 2. Check with your dealer if your going in and can’t access your existing camera

Have a look on eBay and it becomes clear

Thanks a lot for that info, very helpful.

I’m convinced it’s as you said previously. Things like this bug me a wee bit, so will probably get it swapped out at some point soon…

So I managed to get into where the camera is without removing the bumper, thanks to a wee vid on YouTube!

Mine has a manufacturing date of 29th November 2012.

I’ve found replacements on eBay thanks to cj10jeeper’s advice.

But the ā€œnewestā€ I can find is from 2016. Is there a newer version does anyone know?

Attached are pics of mine. The 2016 replacement version has a part number of GX5319G490AD.

Can't help you with the question about a later model, but just to warn that the one you have is a different pin configuration to mine, so don't rely on the link as a source.

Some JLR cameras showing connections here

I have bought TPMS from them. Good supplier.

Yep, no worries.

I did notice that, but thanks for the heads up again.
I have a replacement on the way now. Fingers crossed it does the trick!

Following on from yesterday’s post, whilst under the boot trimmings, it became apparent someone else had been in there recently perhaps, as I noticed the Red plastic cover hadn’t been put back on top of the positive battery terminal.

I also noticed that this cable (circled) wasn’t plugged into anything!! Should it be??

AIUI, that unplugged cable is only used for predelivery transportation. Nothing to worry about.

So the replacement I ordered arrived yesterday. Unfortunately when plugging it in, the car came up with a rear camera fault etc. So has now been returned. Back to trying to find the ā€œcorrectā€ one again. 😫

P.S. JLR quoted £798inc VAT (2 hours Labour) to replace the rear camera. Takes literally 5 minutes to get into the camera and remove. 🤭🤯

That’s unfortunate

I assume you matched to the original camera pn
Did you disconnect the battery so the system gets a full reboot?
I’d also take it for a short drive. My Evoque required moving back and forth on the drive a couple of times to recognise the replacement.

Hi again cj10jeeper.

The part numbers were almost identical, down to the only difference being the first letter. (I’ve since discovered the ā€œT2R….ā€ part number might be more relatable when searching for a replacement.)

I thought this one would be okay, but it wasn’t. I was a bit pushed for time yesterday to do this, but had to work with the time I had to try it out. I didn’t disconnect the battery no, but did reverse back and forth a few times to no avail. I even put the old one back in, and tried again with the new one after, but it still kept coming up with the fault.

I also shut the car down, locked it for a while, and tried again, but no joy! I didn’t have time to take it out for a spin unfortunately.

Maybe it might’ve worked if I’d disconnected the battery, but it’s too late now as the part’s on its way back to the supplier.

I’m away now for 14 days, so will try again with another option when I get home hopefully…
