Purchasing a white F-TYPE R from Jag dealer - haggling tips please lol

Just an update to this thread I posted a week or 2 back - https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2345

The Blackberry one was sold fairly quickly - the price at the time of asking was £62k which was a little out of my price range. I've always had my heart set on a white one but when I saw the Blackberry one I thought it looked great too. However, I couldn't justify the price and was waiting to see if it would drop below £60k and then I would make up my mind there and then as to go for the white or blackberry one. However, the blackberry one has been sold.

I'm now about to go ahead and buy the 64 plate white F-Type with Storm alloys and carbon ceramics. I think the storm alloys look superb! It has only done 11000 miles. It's an AWD model so must have been one of the first AWD F-Types in the country! It also flew through its first MOT with no advisories. It has the black back too which is what complements the white paintwork. It has quite a few extras too such as parking pack, heated seats... the only thing it doesn't have is the panoramic roof. However, The only reason I want a panoramic roof is because I think the black roof looks great with the white paintwork. I'm not bothered about the whole effect of the panoramic roof inside the cabin, so I was thinking about getting a gloss black roof wrap? Seems cheap and having looked at some pics of other cars, it looks really good!

I will have finance through my bank (Halifax). They offer PCP finance to their customers and I am able to obtain a rate of 4.9%.

When I call the Jaguar dealer - what things should I haggle with? The cash price? I notice in one of the pics an alloy has received some light kerbing on the extreme edge - I think I should ask them to fix it?

How about new pads? Mats? Anything else I should ask for?

You can prob get a few 100 off the price maybe 500 if you push it.The best way to get money off at dealers is finance.5. 9 ish odd % I think with Jag But you may get a 1000 off that way MAYBE! lol.

I am currently looking to buy a car cash and the dealers wont give much if any discount

Oh BTW there is a nice white one with carbon roof croydon I think main dealer round your budget ;) I dont want it as it has the carbon roof :)

Jaguar's finance is normally something like 10.9% - compared to what I can get with Halifax (4.9%) it can mean a difference of £150 - £200 a month on a car around £55k - £60k! Incredible really. Even if they knocked £1k off the price if I took Jaguar finance I'd still be much better off with Halifax's finance with no discount on the cash price.

Yes I noticed this one BUT the chrome window and side vents are a definite no - especially with black wheels. I think black wheels suit the white paint but the Storm alloys with carbon ceramics look superb.

To get around the panoramic roof issue - A gloss black roof wrap seems ideal and not expensive at all.

Farnell tried to get me to do finance 5.9% I have the email with the offer, also read above about the 2 cars ;)

I know I liked the car also, I am in the same boat as you with finding the right car, seems our budgets are around the same also.It is not easy.

I made a deal for one up north main dealer and agreed on price etc, to then find out they cant take card payments ( I wanted to put 7k on a credit card 0%) I dont understand how they cant take card payments if im honest seems stupid. They wanted me to drive up look over the car then do a bank transfer only and wait till it clears before I can drive away! I would do it but needed to put the 7 on credit and not really willing to go with there finance.

I wouldn't be surprised if I was still looking this time next year. It's not like there's lots out there with the colour & extras I'm looking for.

I would be interested if I wasn't looking for a change from red cars.

Yea same not a fan of red at all tbh. I do like the white, then storm grey/Carpathian (same colour) then black for me.My local dealer has a dark blue one in on the weekend for me to look at.They even offered to wrap the car any colour I want haha. Not quite the same tho really, wrap isn't a bad idea though to protect the paint but mmmmm I prefer real paint/ perfect car

I spose I think the car is over priced a bit anyway figures of about 60 2015 under 10k on the clock awd etc.I would value it 57 ish max

I wouldn’t worry about haggling too much to be fair. In my experience we are all very particular about what features and colours our cars must have. By the time mine came up I knew the real value, knew their price and knew my own maximum. I also knew that if I didn’t buy quickly it would be gone to another buyer and I would have nothing but regret.

If you, like me, are fussy I suggest you hold to your maximum and get on and buy and enjoy your car. If it’s reasonably new your going to lose a ton in devaluation anyway, the smiles will more than make up for every penny I guarantee you.

Dealers will limit payments using credit cards because the merchant charges are a % of the transaction value. In the case of £7,000 could be something like £150 out of their profit. When I bought, my dealer suggested I paid £4,000 by credit card (if I had a card with a loyalty scheme and wanted some points) without any prompt from me. This was the maximum amount they were permitted to do in any single transaction. Debit cards don't have the same % hit for the retailer, so are pretty much always used as the means of payment from my experience. I've not come across a limit when using a debit card, but it's usually worth notifying your bank in advance to be safe.

I guess I'll have to keep playing the waiting game and being patient! It's not easy.

The dealer wont take any card be it credit or debit etc I even offered to pay the fee.

I don't know how companies that behave like that are still in business. I wish more people would just walk away from them so they go out of business. Its crazy in this day that they don't take card payments. Especially debit cards!

Next they'll be asking you to write one of those old fashioned things on paper.... What are they called again?... Used to have them in the dark ages.... Oh yeah, "cheques".

Good luck with your search Gents/Ladies ...

Before the ‘haggling with dealer’ thoughts, I would always suggest ensuring you know your ‘must have’ spec, anything else being a bonus, your cannot have colour(s), makes finding a car much easier ... once you have these bits sorted, now its time to set up your search engines and alert ...

Dealer haggling ... if you just go for a sticker price reduction expect a tough discussion, even though most used F-types will have between £5-£8k in that price, they have to pay for preparation ahead of the sale, pay VAT, over allowance for part ex.
So the way to go in my experience, is extras, warranty, maintenance agreements, particularly the latter two as they a ‘paper’ giveaways.
By example, you wrote above that you wanted black vents and window surrounds ... find the perfect car but for chrome ... talk to the stealer and say you’ll buy but they need to swap out the OEM PARTS to the gloss black items.
And the other consideration is to advise you want their finance. This will get you a better deal almost every time, and you can legally settle the agreement in full within the first 14days (without interest ISTR), and flip to your own sourced finance deal.

Hope the above helps, look forward to photos of the new toys when you get them home ... at a great price!!

Regards, Paul
