Pulled Fuse 15 on MY2018

Thoroughly enjoying my first F-Type for the last 9 months, especially when on it over 4000rpm :D

Finally decided it was time to enjoy those smile-inducing sounds at lower rpms and pulled Fuse 15.

Took it for a run and ..... found no significant difference. Still plenty of Rice Krispies (snaps, crackles and pops) over 3500-4000 rpm. But can't say I noticed anything new below that.

Is it something to do with MY18 (introduction of particulate filter ?), or was I expecting too much ? 🤔

I had a similar experience.
I didn’t notice much change pulling Fuse 15 on my car - also a 68 plate car but SVR rather than V6.
It did introduce a slight drone when cruising (indicating there was definitely a change but no noticeable difference at low revs) so decided to put Fuse 15 back in.
Perhaps the first cars with particulate filters like ours are louder than later cars with particulate filters.

Hmm, is there really any point in pulling the fuse in your car? And your car doesn't have the particulate filter, does it? IIRC the filter was introduced during MY19.

Mine is also a MY18 and even a late one so perhaps MY18.5 and I can open the valves with the exhaust button regardless of revs. I usually open them directly after startup and can clearly hear the exhaust noise difference although the car is only at idle revs. I would expect yours to behave the same way and in that case pulling the fuse doesn't add much value. I really wouldn't want to keep the valves permanently open. Although I drive with them open most of the time it's so nice to switch to quiet mode when on a motorway run.

If you want to enjoy the exhaust noise more there are some simple free mods you can do. I don't know if they make as much of a difference in V8 cars but they certainly do in a V6 coupé.

Stage 1: stuff the symposer. I think that's a brilliant mod because it kills off the pointless and unpleasant howling drone that the symposer produces which partially drowns out the lovely exhaust note in the cabin.

Stage 2: remove the boot cover so you get more exhaust noise into the cabin.

Stage 3: remove the boot floor, battery cover and storage compartment under the boot floor so you get even more exhaust noise into the cabin.

Hi MajorTom. That's really the point of my question. I thought the idea of pulling Fuse 15 was to get more sound lower down the rev range, but i can't notice any difference.

I'll give it a week or two just to be sure. But then the fuse will go back in.

Hi,

A new member here,
I'm looking around to buy a second hand F-type V6 or 4pitter, not decided yet, I do see a lot of them 2.0's or 3.0's without the "fun-button" does the "fuse 15" work on those cars to? Or does it only works when there is an exhaustvalve-switch?

If that works, there is an easy way to introduce an invisible selfmade fun-button under the dash ;-)

Thanks

If you do find you have switchable exhaust valves search in this forum for remote fuse 15 very good post explaining how to add remote control to fuse 15 (fuse 15 supplies power to exhaust valves)

KM69MZX - is your car MY18 or MY19? A ‘68 plate suggests to me it should normally be a MY19 (letter K in VIN number) but you say in your signature that it is MY18 so perhaps the car was built in early 2018 or even 2017 but not registered until after 1 September 2018 when the 68 plate began?

As MajorTom suggests, the MY is likely to be a good (but not perfect) indicator of whether you have a particulate filter or not.

My car is MY19 so does have the particulate filter.

I assumed as it was a 68 plate, it was MY18. The last part of the VIN is JCK52137. Does that make it MY18 or MY19 ?

MY18 (same as mine). The following C denotes a Browns Lane build, and the K is part of the production serial number.

Yep, that's clearly MY18.

Hmm, there would be something seriously fishy if the car was built at Browns Lane though and I guess you meant Castle Bromwich. :) It's been quite a few years since Browns Lane now...

Ah, my VIN info file is clearly a bit out of date!

Unless you actually have an S-Type and not an F-Type. :D

I just checked - definitely says "F". 8-)

Phew! Imagine the shock realising you've been driving an S-Type all along. :P

Passed by Browns Lane after a Castle Bromwich tour of the F-Type production line some years ago. Holy ground when it comes to Jaguars. Certainly no signs of Jaguar production left but it's nice that they left some references to William Lyons there. IIRC the S-Type was the last one to be built over there.

Well, tempted by the sound experience and a short blast on this great sunny day, pulled the fuse 15 which escaped from my frozen fingers and took a sliding dive deep down under the fuse box. Seems he has been long waiting for this freedom moment to come.
No single regret: the soundtrack is now at its best.
I will be fitting a remote controlled relay as other fellows have done.

Pleased to hear it worked well for you. Not sure why it didn't work on my V6S (P380). Will just have to keep the revs up to enjoy those pops n woofles :D

It worked quite well on the SVR : normally when you press the valve switch these would open at idle and close as soon as you press the pedal, then reopen again at circa 3500rpm. Removing the fuse keeps these open throughout the revs. This is a true game changer.
But on the P380, pressing the switch the valves will open and remain open throughout the range. So pulling the fuse is not adding any drama.
