Pothole-tastic

If you're going on the roundabout on the A41 bypass at Whitchurch, by the services, watch out for a mahoosive pothole.

I popped my left front tyre on it this morning. What a mare. I was going from N Wales to Oxford, I'd only been on the road for half an hour and bang. Luckily the roof button for assistance worked great. They knew exactly where I was and a trailer came out to get me after about 90 minutes. He took me back to Wrexham where they managed to fit a tyre. It's a 'no brand' for £99 but it'll do for now. The other 3 will need replacing in a few months so I'll do all 4 then. Finally arrived home nearly 8hrs after I left!

Looking at the Shropshire pothole website, it looks like 2 other people suffered the same fate in the last 24hrs.

While I was waiting in the lay-by I saw a new shape F-type coming the other way. It was that lovely goldy/silver colour. Very classy. Hello if it was you!!

Hi Kevc did you take a photo of this I did exactly the same thing in Barnsley Yorkshire damaging the tyre and rim I put a claim in against the council and after a bit of messing about got paid for the damage £280 in total cheers Tony

I couldn't get back to the roundabout to take a photo of the hole but I have receipts from the recovery and the tyre place and the photo of the wheel. I know the exact location and it's obviously an issue because 2 others have also reported punctures. I found a claim form so I'll fill that out tomorrow and see what happens.

Don’t let them try and fob you off if they turn you down tell them you want to appeal it and will go to the small claims court if necessary took me 9 months but got it in the end good luck 🤞

The RAC have a helpful guide:
https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/road-safety/report-a-pothole/

I’d also note it’s highly likely your rim is bent even if no external visible marks. You won’t know until it’s checked with a dial gauge or similar and balanced. The temp repair tyre fitters may not have bothered, just added more weights.

Someone else hit it this morning and popped both left tyres. They took pics.
I reckon I've hit the sharp edge bottom left.

Looks like it’s had a temporary repair before the trouble is if it’s not done properly the rain and frost just lifts it straight back out get that claim from sent in

Yay they've agreed to pay out. I guess they had so many claims in such a short period that it was a slam dunk.

That's a terrific result and very quick.
Out of interest do you get a new as damaged brand of tyre, or reimbursed for the budget tyre?

The T&Cs of the claim process were very clear. You get reimbursed for your costs and that's all. It's sadly not a free pay cheque for a band new Pzero! They say age and wear are taken in to account, so I'd either have to find a Pzero with 7000 miles on it or stick with the 'no brand' I have and I'll just do all 4 when the current ones need changing in about 6-8 months.

Fair enough for a minimal cost to them quick process, which has worked fairly well for you.
If I’d lost say 2 new tyres and bent rims making say £500-£1000+ for quality tyres a rim refurbs/ replacements, I’d be looking at seeing them in court.

When I claimed for a damaged tyre on a previous car, the council made me a low offer citing wear & tear. However, when I disputed it & produced a recent receipt, showing the tyre was almost new, they increased the offer.

When I sent my Jag flying through the hedge and Jaguar were repairing it, they insisted on four new wheels (and tyres) because there were 'marks' on some of the wheels. (The car had a soft landing and they were really trivial marks to me. You'd do more damage kerbing them.) I commented on my surprise to the repairer and his response was with a performance car Jaguar were not prepared to release it to me with refurbished wheels.

(Oh, and considering there was next to no damage to them I took the old ones home.)
