Passenger door won't open from inside, outside is fine

Hi, I noticed yesterday when I gave someone a lift that they were not able to open the door from the inside, the lock and unlock buttons work fine and the external handle came out, but just wouldn't open from the inside, I had to jump out and open the passenger door from the outside, it was working fine a week ago

There's a cable which runs from the lock mechanism to the interior handle. This cable ends in a bullet type connector which slots into the handle. This may have become disconnected or broken. You'll need to take the door card off to have a look. If you're mechanically minded, it's not too hard to do.

OK thanks, its just strange how it was working 3 days ago and then it just seems to have stopped on Sunday, don't think I will gamble taking the door off my self, will need to take it to the garage I think then

Video below shows removal of door card. Cable I mentioned is visible at about 3 mins 30 seconds.

Had a similar issue happen on my passenger (Left hand - UK) door. Turned out the interior handle to lock cable had detached from the rear of the door card meaning the outer cable was not fixed, absorbing the movement of the inner cable. See pic below

Thankfully easy fix by pressing the outer cable back into its housing.

The door card is not difficult to remove, a few torx screws and the usual plastic trim retainer clips (released with large trim tool). Video above shows you how to do it.

I suspect once you have the door card off, you will find the pull cable (item 12 above) has detached from its fixture and is therefore not actioning the door lock. Alternatively the cable may have snapped or the 'nipple' at each end may have sheared off. Cable is T2P1096 priced at £51.96 (Britcar).

OK thanks, so the only way to see any of this is to remove the door trim (card)? will have to give it a go at the weekend

can I check that the cable connections is all within the door card and its not actually in the engine anywhere, I am wondering if it does have a connection cable that runs into the engine area, it could have been that during the service when they replaced the Oil and filters that maybe the cable got moved then, but that is only if it is connected in the engine compartment near the filters etc. but if it is all within the door then it can't be anything to do with them when they serviced the car

The interior door handle has a purely mechanical, cable connection to the door locking mechanism, so yes all behind the door card.

Don’t mix up cable as in an electrical wire with this which is a bowden cable. The latter merely transmits mechanical force of a movable inner within a fixed outer cover. If the inner is broken, detached at one end or stretched or the outer loose then it ceases to work.
