doing my research on new pads & disks

a lot of threads with people saying Portersfield R4-S are the way to go, are people still using them and happy? The US Portersfield site has them, but the UK site knows nothing of an ftype..... although it looks like I can get them from people like DAE

I worked out the fronts to be AP1750 £234 and rears AP1753 £234

The other brand I've seen people mention is Apec, which seems to be massively cheaper, and I don;t know if I should be worried at the big difference?

Apec front pads AND discs PAD1757/DSK2817 £162.11
Apec read pads AND discs PAD2046/DSK3201 £168.48

now those prices are from ebay (I couldn't really find anyone else selling them and they don't seem to sell direct)

any thoughts on what I should do?

Only that all that friction and heat needs to cause wear somewhere, ceramic content “low dust” pads are a godsend for cleaner wheels but your discs will wear quicker.

I'm running the Apec pads & am quite happy with them. Less dust than the standard pads & I haven't really noticed any performance difference. My independent supplied & fitted them.

I think you need to consider what you are looking for in brake pads. Better braking in normal conditions, less dust, less fade with hard use, cheaper price point, etc.
APEC is a weird one. Rather hides behind lots of group company names under Alliance Automotive Group UK but seems to be a low price point pad sold via Indy retailers. They even imply so on their website.

I’ve used EBC pads for years and never any issue, low dust, higher performance (depending on the colour selected)
Personally I’d want a good brand name or oem. I’d also never buy pads from eBay, unless you are certain of the origin. Let’s just say fakes get into the supply chain somehow…

thanks for all the replies everyone, I've taken the safe option and just going to go the safe OEM route!

I'll take some nice before and after shots of my calipers when they get refurbished, which will be later this month
