One special Car.

Hi one and all. So it’s decided, I need to own one special car before something viral does for me and of course it’s an F type coupe (and my god I have looked at everything else). Fingers crossed the pennies will be with me within a week or so. Hopefully someone here will help me make sure I don’t buy a pup. I have driven the 2.0L which didn’t quite hit the spot. Needed to drive it fast to get the best from the exhaust. So it’s either a fully loaded V6 or V6S for me. Thanks in advance for any help.

What help do you need? I'll start by saying if you've decided on a V6 don't test drive a V8!

And welcome to the club ....

Hey scm. Thanks for the welcome although I won’t feel fully onboard until I get the keys for one. I have driven the V6 and that was plenty quick enough for me!! If I keep looking for bigger and better I’ll never buy one. I guess I’ll find one I like the look of and post it here to get peoples opinion. Had a chat with a local Jag independent specialist today and he put my mind at rest that as a general rule the F type is a pretty solid car. (Was starting to wobble after reading all the issues on this forum). He had a beautiful looking convertible in with an accidental swimming pool in the boot but the thing still looked magnificent. I’m looking forward to being in a car that people look at rather than the other way round. I’m thinking £30k,Max, as few miles as possible, pan roof, heated seat, reverse camera, active exhaust etc (kinda things everyone wants) Just struggling with the V6S v V6 conundrum.

Hello BjC16,

Welcome to the forum. Lots of knowledge & ownership experience on here.

£30k is a bit on the low side side for a top spec low mileage V6. Good cars selling quickly for good money, even more so V6S. You may have to compromise slightly on age, mileage or the extra nice options. I would really exercise caution. It would not be a bad thing to post up possible purchases to gain opinion. Don’t rule out purchasing private but carry out full due diligence & inspect every single inch of the car twice.

I’ve recently seen an F-Type, purchased from a dealer (not Jaguar), up on ramps for MOT & service. Underneath it looks like it’s been through the Welsh rally stages, sideways. All fixable but not after you’ve owned it three weeks. Non main dealers are good at making things look shiny. Personally the last place I’d buy. Just my opinion.

Most used F-Types have been well looked after & respected. A few have been ragged & abused. Buyer beware.

V6 or V6S. For me the base V6, with nice options & lower miles. The base V6 can be upgraded if that’s your bag.

Good Luck with your search but certainly tread carefully at £30k 👍

BJC16 that’s great news. As a recent convert to the stunning beauty of this car I can empathise with your decision! I was in the realms of a 911 or Maserati GT but what swung it for me was that I set a budget for this (I have four daughters so it is strictly a two seater sunday funday car for me) and decided that not having the full knowledge of others i really needed the security of buying from a main JLR dealer. I found a V6 with top spec and low miles but as daddydarren pointed out compromises need to be made sub £30k and I decided I didn’t need the S (upgrade to same output later if needed) and wouldn’t drive a V8 as I wanted a manual. Couldn’t agree more with the sentiments about being careful about none main dealers. I think I saw someone in here posting they were selling theirs to go electric over in the “for sale” thread - maybe check that too. Good luck and happy hunting!

Some good advice here. Old F Type brochures are available online so you can see what was standard and what was an option etc. Remember that V6 vs V6S isn’t just a power increase, it also includes limited slip diff and adaptive suspension. Also, although I’m not sure when it was introduced, there are AWD versions as well as RWD. Good luck in your search, forum member SimpleR has helped many buyers with car histories.

Hi and welcome.

Read this topic from earlier in the week as you both seem to be looking for the same thing and car and need to decide which is more important.

Hope that helps, once you find one then post it here or PM for opinions.

Most people only post of forums when they have issues so the posts are likely to be weighted in favour of problems. No car is perfect, but in general the F-Type is, IME, not the money pit that ignorant people think it is. And it looks gorgeous! ;)

Hi and welcome, if it helps I bought this car for a smidgen under 30k, V6S 2015 with red sports interior, flat bottom steering wheel, heated steering wheel and seats, active exhaust, 20 inch alloys, and I think everything else is standard on the car, I also paid £400 for a 12 months RAC platinum warranty. The car came from listers Honda however they do also have a jaguar garage which is where the car was serviced. I recently had the car up on ramps for a diff oil change and while it's dirty underneath the mechanic checked it all over and said it was in good condition. O and the mileage was 24500. Hope this helps you decide. IMG_20210313_152741.jpg

it has to be the S, as said above the power can be upgraded but not all the rest of the goodies, hope you find the right one soon ready for summer.

Here’s a link to the original 100 page brochure if you’re looking at anything from the MY13/14/15/16 years

Hi just joined forum. I picked up my new car on Tuesday without test driving it or any other F Type (click and collect!).

I couldn’t be happier with it. 68 plate P380 R Dynamic.

Go for it. You’ll love it.

I bought my 2015 (MY16) V6S from a non JLR dealer about 18 months ago. It came with an aftermarket 3 month warranty. The price of a similar age & spec model through a JLR dealer was, from memory, about £4k more expensive. I figured at the time that £4k would cover a lot of work if anything was needed / wasn't covered under warranty etc. Fortunately I've had no problems so far and thoroughly love the car. So, I suppose what I'm saying is that, IMO, if the price is right & the car seems to pass all the usual due diligence checks, I wouldn't be too worried about buying a car outside the JLR dealer network or without a JLR warranty.

This is great guys. I really do appreciate your inputs. The pictures are of a thing of beauty but is a coupe for me for sure. I absolutely will post on here when I find one I like the look of. I cannot wait to own one. It’s great to know there is a community of people whose brains I can pick even when I’ve bought her.
