Oil filter and oil specs

Am going to do a mid service oil and filter change, phoned nearest dealer for a filter and oil price, they wanted £50 for the filter, seemed a bit steep, looking online they range from £6 upwards, any recommendations on filter??

And the dealer stocked shell ow20 of the 5122 oil specs, which I though had been superseded by the 5006 spec??

You can get genuine filters off eBay for about £15-£20. J/no C2D3670 or the LR/no LR011279 which is the Mann filter HU8008Z in the JRL packaging. My local JLR dealer uses Shell Helix Ultra SP 0W-20 and around £37 for a 5lt tub on eBay.

Stick with a well known branded oil filter and you'll be just fine. Personally I'd go with the JLR part off ebay if you're sure the seller is reputable.

Whatever you do avoid the cheap unbranded filters as the risk is too high, especially on high demand engines. Poor filtration, lower quality filtration materials, poor seal and fit for the sake of a few pound saving.

Was never going to use a cheap filter, was looking at Mahle or Mann, which Jagbob has confirmed the Mann filter is the jag filter in disguise,

Still curious about the different oil specs, 5122 v 5006,

Glad to hear it. With you referencing £6 filters it’ was a red flag.
