New to the F Type world....

Hi everyone,

I bought my first F Type in July, I didn't spend too long looking and only drove a couple of examples. There was a car for sale which ticked a lot of options boxes & with low miles and loved the look of it!

V8 R AWD, Pan Roof, the colour is blackberry (deep purple metallic in the sun) with full red interior

So far the experience has been marred by a couple of issues which are aftersales derived in the main and the car has been back with the supplying independent dealer for the last 2 weeks.

One of the options (which I wasn't particularly looking for) is Carbon Ceramics - my car has them and i noticed a couple of things with them in the first few days. 1. the O/S front caliper would creak when depressing the brake pedal at any speed, 2. the parking brake was squealing at all speeds, 3. the N/S fron brake developed a grumbling sound when braking.

Everything was disclosed to the dealer and they inspected in-house, they informed me that they wanted to replace the front pads and the parking brake pads, all sounds fine and i appreciated the support from them. Fast forward and after some very poor customer service by a director of the business (basically saying they weren't going to replace them after they said they were going to) all has hopefully been sorted out and they have stuck to their agreement and replaced the pads as promised.

I have never had CC brakes before and have done a lot of research into the care and quirks of them, given the dealer's no so great response, I was a bit sceptical and so have asked for the original pads to be present with the car for me to see they have been replaced.

Happily the car is now ready to collect tomorrow and I can't wait! The car drives without any other issues, however if anyone has any nuggets of info or things to check re the braking system (or anything else) I'm all ears!

Many thanks

Hi and welcome.

I cannot help with CC brakes but you mentioned the O/S Front brake issue and the car presumably was repaired based on the MOT record of "Offside Front Lower Integral body structure is deformed but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced"??

I was under the impression CC brakes would last 100k+ under normal usage.

Thanks, I was told the issue as mentioned on MOT history was related to a jacking point mishap and I have had the car on a ramp for inspection, there was no damage or evidence of any repair. I even spoke with the previous servicing dealer and they confirmed the same. So it was a bit of a mystery as to that wording really. The brakes and N/S "grumble" felt like a low pad, I've read that cracked pad material can exhibit this sometimes.

Got the car back today, full set of new front pads fitted and all previous noises / traits have gone. The pads which came off the car were the originals and we're in very bad shape, crumbling and cracked in parts so it was clearly these which needed replacing. Fixed in goodwill by the garage. The car isnt going to be tracked or anything so these should last well now.

Driving it again today, the V8's are an absolute triumph, such noise and theatre... Smiles for miles!

Welcome aboard. Superb looking specimen you’ve got yourself there!
Good that you’ve got it back to its brilliant self.
The V6’s aren’t that bad either! 😉😊

Have to say i prefer the dual exhausts on the V6... Echos the Etype and looks a more cohesive design! Both great motors!

Did you get this from Auto100 by any chance?

I did yes, was it one you were looking at too?

Haha, yes, I was down in Cornwall when I emailed them and they said it was reserved! I swore a lot that night! Funnily enough, I’ve since come back up to Nottingham and then driven back down to Cornwall to buy almost the exact same car from a private seller in Ultimate Black.

Small world…

Glad you got the issue sorted!

Small world indeed! I almost bought a black one from Sussex, Arun Cars. I think it's still for sale, 2015 with just 18k, it was Viezu's car and has pulley upgrade, bigger intercooler and 650bhp! I just wasn't sure I wanted a modded one. They are a great garage though with loads in stock and have ex jaguar technicians for servicing etc.

How are you finding your car? Mine is now my daily, I've done around 1000 miles in so far and a run to London it achieved 35.8mpg which I was surprised with. On the flip side I've had to down to 8.5mpg too!

Hope your enjoying it!

Welcome to the club! And we've got two dual exhausts on the V8, we're just greedy! :)

Very true! On both variants the stock exhausts must be some of the most resolved on the market, great sounds!!
