New owner - brighter bulbs

Hi,

Hi everyone, I have still to do an introduction but just a quick message here first. I recently purchased a 2016 v6. From research I knew the brightness of the headlights could be an issue for night driving. I had osram night breakers in a previous car. Looking online I found a few older posts about them, stating D35 6K to be the best. Are they going to be an improvement over standard bulbs?

I searched and found these. It doesn’t say D35 though so what should I go for? Or what do folk recommend?

Nightbreakers certainly made a big improvement for me - but also getting the headlights adjusted to the top end of the correct dipped beam throw.

And yes D3s is the correct type - I seem to remember if you type it into the Halfords computer of chance it comes back as D3 :roll:

If I type my reg into auto bulbs direct or Halfords it comes back with D1S.
Have used Night breakers in the past and always found them very good.

D1S comes up for me also in online searches for bulb type. Presume if the original is removed it will have a part number or type to help identify whether it is 1 or 3?

Ah yes, maybe it comes back as D1S instead of the correct D3S.

….at least D3S was correct for my MY14 car.

Have a read of this to understand the differences between the bulb types. They are not interchangeable unless you also swap out the ballast - so I wouldn't buy either without checking what you've already got.

Yes, same here. My reg comes back with D1S. I’ll check what Is currently fitted as suggested or just leave it as seems a bit of a hassle.

I need to look into changing the bulbs as it’s not fun for driving in the dark on country roads and getting overpowered by other vehicles headlights! I found this information for bulb removal. Are the steps correct?

In case you haven't changed F-Type headlight bulbs, a few tips go a long way.
* Locate the large circular rubber seal on the back of each headlamp unit and pull it off backward. There is a grab tab.
* Remove the two bolts holding the power steering reservior (left) and jump terminal box (right side) then zip tie them up and out of the way. Its worth wrapping them in towels first to prevent the edges from scratching the engine bay paint.
* If the headlamp electrical harness (attached at the rearmost point of the headlamp unit) limits your access, press the tab and wiggle it off for more working room.
* Locate the high voltage connector on the bottom side of the metal square base of the D3S HID bulbs. Use a long screwdriver to press the release tab in the center with one hand, while you pull the connector down with the other hand. A pair of 12 inch+ needlenose pliers can help grab the sides of the connector and pull it down if your hands are too big.
* Reach into the circular hole and feel around the metal square base of the D3S bulb. There is a metal tab at 4 oclock and 10 oclock. Place your thumb and fore finger on the 5 oclock side and the 11 oclock sides of the tabs, and firmly rotate counter clockwise in an unscrewing motion until you feel a definite click. The tabs will rotate to about 2 oclock and 8 oclock in the unlocked position. Now you can pull out the bulb.

I just checked on actual osram site and says D1S for compatibility too.
