Nav update

I’m not that techy but uploading new map details shouldn’t cause this much stress!! I have now twice downloaded the update onto USB3 128GB, when I insert it into the car nothing happens other than a pop up message ,this device does not support multimedia!
I’ve followed the instructions, start car insert usb select nav on screen and wait for update to start, but it doesn’t😡

Usb stick has to be FAT32 format I think, which the download software should set for you. I have a 64GB stick that works OK, but I think it asks to erase everything before downloading as I think it got a bit confused once when doing an update

I don't know why they can't just let you download the file, put it a memory stick and shove it in the car. All this "download manager" nonsense is just more work for them and more hassle for users, especially if they don't use Mac or Windoze. Hopeless.

I had used the same memory stick two or three times and it then decided to play up. Bought a new 64gb SanDisk one and it worked!

I'd also try with another correctly formatted stick. I use a 64 GB one, also Sandisk if I recall correctly. Never had any issues with the updates.

As good practice I reformat the USB stick to FAT 32 each time (not just delete files) and have never had an issue with updating in the car. Many other issues related to the flaky way that JLR operate maps, but not the USB.

I’ve got another stick, a sandisk one and now it’s all updated😎 obviously fussy about quality of products we use😬

Yep it's a proper Jag so it's supposed to be a bit fussy. :D Same thing about how you feed it - feed it with dodgy low octane juice and it will let you down. ;)

Phew, successful update completed after a no joy attempt yesterday.

Initially downloaded the update via the MapDownloader app onto a 32Gb stick I've had for a couple of years (it 'was' the recommended minimum). Unfortunately the stick wasn't recognised. Reformatted stick to FAT32 and redownloaded update files, however still no success.

After reading the posts here and on other threads I obtained a 64 Gb SanDisk Ultra Flair USB 3 stick found at https://amzn.eu/d/9xkmVW3 (overnight delivery which was nice). As it had some SanDisk software files onboard, and having read it needs to be a 'clean' stick, I reformatted to FAT 32 and once again downloaded the update files.

Following the standard instructions I inserted the stick into one of the armrest USB slots and it was instantly recognised. After confirming that I understood the previous version would be deleted, within seconds it read a 51% upload; around 20 minutes later it had reached about 85% and then suddenly said... the upload was unsuccessful, there is no navigation software loaded and I may need to contact the dealer. Oh dear!

However, switching everything off and then having a second go, all went well.
The upload percentages went up at a steady rate until after 20 mins to much relief, the marvellous screen display of 'Map install successful' appeared :-)

Main takeaway is the updated advice on the iGuide page - "It is recommended that downloads are done to a standard USB device, such as a memory stick (USB 3.0 is best) with 64GB of free storage space."

Thanks to everyone on this and other threads for the advice and guidance when it was most needed 🙏🏼

Hiya. I just got a map on a usb from here.com.
New satnav installed has no map at all and the screen says insert usb.
Anyway I inserted the usb and got the Format Not Supported message so it is useless.
You would think the official drive in a big cd case ought to be correct format.
Emailed client services so waiting for a reply.
In the meantime time I'll get another usb and format that differently to try.PXL_20250517_091619759.jpg
