MY16 Battery Drain

Hi Guys,

Got an odd issue I'll try to summarise, keen to see if anyone has experienced similar

- Keep getting low battery warning
- Goes away for a while after a long drive but car is not a daily driver.
- When connecting CTEK Trickle Charger, get an error on step 5, I think this indicates battery not holding charge
- Car was totally flat the other month, had to get AA out, Jaguar battery flat, got replacement AA one
- Low battery warning on again after 4 or so months of having brand new battery installed
- Same error on the CTEK charger
- Took the car to Jaguar, they say they can't find a drain but can only do limited testing coz it has an after market Blackvue Camera installed and a couple of LED light strips in the foot well, asked to me remove all the aftermarket stuff and then bring it back
- Have disconnected the Dashcam, will get the LED lightstrips taken out too but this all seems odd to me, those things have been installed since I got the car new, three years ago and now with two different batteries the CTEK gives me an error..

Any ideas on any common drain issues with the F's?

Thanks!

Has anyone been connecting something to the OBD port? There's a known issue that if the connection isn't correctly terminated it'll drain the battery. One symptom is the light doesn't ever go out on the hazard warning switch. The US forum fix is to disconnect the negative battery lead for a while to shutdown everything (they say to touch it to the positive to discharge all the modules.

Thanks SCM,

Thats interesting, the AA and Jaguar have used the OBD port but this was after the issues started.

It sounds like doing some sort of reset stops the hazard warning light?

Had the same problem with my Range Rover (same system) It was a parasitic drain, took 3 days to sort out but they were not working on the car for 3 days as they had to try something, let the car go to sleep to test it then try something else etc, etc. Got there in the end. Used an Auto Electrician, not the main dealer as they would probably sub contract it anyway.

U.S. guys have reported the issue after a service or when the car has been for emissions testing, presumably when the OBD port has been used. Doesn't sound like your issue, though.

Yeah, the disconnect resets everything. If you catch the battery before it's completely flat it should be recoverable with the CTEK. On a similar note, mine went flat some months ago after behaving perfectly, the symptoms I got was that journeys stopped being recorded and I always got an "SOS system not available" every time I started it. The car reported the flat battery to InControl (which was how I discovered it) and they sent an AA guy to get it started. Once it was running and I'd charged the battery overnight I've not had any issues with it since.

Hope you can get to the bottom of it!

Interesting. I'm not even getting a flat battery alert via InControl, only via the in car display, but since my CTEK is giving an error I can't recover the charge :(
