More Ftype issues... what to do

Hi</div><div>I bought my Ftype V6-S 20/6/2014 .. its a 2013 plate and it was about 1 year old at the time I purchased it with 5k on the clock .. bought from a authorized jaguar dealer Grange Jaguar in Essex.. It had been used privately for 1 year (i.e. wasn't an ex-demo car I bought) , was immaculate and looked like it hardly had been used. </div><div><br></div><div>I'm now coming up to to 18 months of ownership..</div><div><br></div><div>So the problems all start last year.. I take it for its 2nd service (major).. 1st problem is that the bonnet was not closed properly.. it ended up being miss-aligned when shut.. this then caused the bonnet to bang into the drivers door and caused the paint to get chipped of the inside of the door when the door was opened. </div><div><br></div><div>Also.. when I took it for its service , I reported that the exhaust was making a very bad grating/rattling noise on start up. After the dealer tried various things suggested by jaguar HQ it was then decided that the engine was at fault.. an internal part must be vibrating causing the noise to travel down the exhaust. NEW ENGINE REQUIRED.. </div><div><br></div><div>So I was without the car for about 6 weeks.. new engine goes in.. and the door that was damaged etc was sorted out (although it took 3 attempts at the jaguar bodyshop to get it correct)</div><div><br></div><div>Audible noise from the exhaust was now a lot better.. however I can still hear something on and off..</div><div><br></div><div>Over the last month... I'm outside scraping the ice of the drivers and passenger window.. and I can hear the exhaust starting to make grating noises again... and on top of that a very loud ticking noise coming from under the bonnet. </div><div><br></div><div>Back over to the dealer for them to take a look ... left it with them for 2 days... and the result is now they need to fit a new supercharger unit... apparently (and this is words from the service manager at guy salmon Coventry) the 1st supercharger units that went on the early registered cars are not of a very good design... and the new re-designed unit that is being fitted next week "will not have the problems that the early ones had" ... not sure at what point I would have been told this if I hadn't raised the issue 1st.. probably when the supercharger unit failed and it was out of warranty..</div><div><br></div><div>So I'm kinda at the stage I'm loosing a bit of faith with it to be honest , iv'e had gearbox failure warning messages on and off... had issues where when in eco mode the car shuts down and then when it fires back on it wont go into a gear so have to turn the car of and on again to solve this (not ideal when in traffic)... issues with the center vent sticking (which after several attempts now appears fixed) . The car seems to be down on performance... ive had issues with the gear changes being "lurchy" , issues with the car being juddery when in reverse / 1st gear to the point it feels its going to cut out and its not firing correctly..</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Ive been really patient.. polite as pie with the dealer , they even commented how "understanding" ive been , but I have just got to the point where the issues have just made the ownership of the car unpleasant..</div><div><br></div><div>I LOVE the car like I'm sure all you FType owners do... I go to shows with it.. take people out in it who show interest etc , however.. my confidence is now low.</div><div><br></div><div>After speaking to my local dealer today... I have 2 options.. I can either put a case forward for jaguar to look at in view of extending the warranty for say another 3 year and ask that jaguar themselves either cover this FOC or pay a decent sum of money towards it due to the hassles ive had...</div><div><br></div><div>OR .. and I hate this line as I'm in retail myself and it winds me up when people say it , I can go down the line of saying "sorry jaguar but really from day 1 your car has not been fit for purpose" .. and see if an offer can be made to exchange for a different F-Type<br><br>on paper... with all the trips back and forth to the dealer , parts that have been exchange (major parts!) and the fact I've probably not had my car for 2 - 3 months out of the 18 I've had it as its been at the dealer.. I think it would be difficult for them to argue !<br><br><br></div><div>Im just disappointed and confused right now to be honest what to do..</div><div>Steve</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

Blimey...I'm gutted for you Steve, really. I remember you posting a while back about the new engine, but the supercharger (and everything else of course) really takes the biscuit.<div><br></div><div>Sounds like you have a proper Friday afternoon car :(</div><div><br></div><div>On that basis, I'm not sure I'd be fancying extending the warranty, even if Jag pay for it (and if they did, would it be the same extensive warranty? Often, extended warranties tend to cover less and not be as comprehensive as the original factory warranty).</div><div><br></div><div>I'd be trying to go for option 2: work out a decent deal with the dealer/JLR and put the dough towards a tidy later-model car.</div><div><br></div><div>I'm not knocking anyone who has one of the earlier cars as I think you're mostly just horribly unlucky, but I have read a couple of folk (on other forums) saying that they can see improvements in build quality as the model years progress.</div><div><br></div><div>Here's one in fact:</div><div>http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f-type-x152-72/2015-2016-quality-differences-157521/</div><div><br></div><div>I'd therefore be trying to bag a 15 or 16 model year car if I were you, combined with screwing JLR for all you can get on a part-ex price for your current motor.</div>

Good grief Steve!! You are certainly patient and obviously love the F Type but in this case it sounds like you acquired a model that is jinxed or the technicians at the dealership haven't got the foggiest. I bought my 2013 V6S in oct 2014 with 1700k on the clock, not one issue to date, oh yes I do remember that a couple of months after I got mine I had the sticking vent, took it to the dealer and they replaced the vent and has been working fine ever since. <div>I will go mental with the dealership, enough of being "understanding". Its practically a bloody brand new car with a new engine, it shouldn't have all these issues!!!!!</div><div>Tell them to get it sorted once and for all and if they cant to change the model. </div>

It's a sad story Steve. I really feel for you. You are a loyal and enthusiastic customer who I believe from what you have written on this forum, deserve much better from JLR.<br>If I was in your position, I would want them to take the car and exchange it for a better built example with the equivalent spec. <br><br>If your current F-Type is still causing problems then they should take it back for a fair price and supply you with a replacement at an equally fair price.<br><br>Enough's enough, I say. <br><br>I wish you all the best of luck with your negotiations and I hope that a happy resolution can be found and that JLR will repay your loyalty and enthusiasm for their products.<br>

That's really bad, they should take it back and give you a new one that works.<div><br></div><div>I hope that the problems are restricted to early models and will not be an issue on the newer models. I have a neighbour that works for JLR as a designer and when the XE was launched, I asked him if it was an BMW 3 Series killer. He said "not yet, don't buy it until the next revision when they have ironed out the initial problems". Buying any car that has just been launched is a risk. Someone I know had their gearbox fail and need replacing after 4K miles in a 7 series Golf R. So it's not just JLR. I would not rush to buy the F-Pace either. There are bound to be issues.</div><div><br></div><div>Good luck Steve.</div>

<div>Thanks for your replies above... think I'm going to have to have a sit down with the dealer next week and go over the options , it all depends on the figures I guess... I wasn't planning on spending any more money after 18 months of purchase to exchange to be honest... but its looking like it could be my only "piece of mind" option..</div><div><br></div><div>The biggest annoyance really is that unless I actually mentioned these noises to the dealer , at no point has any jaguar technician at a dealer had a listen and gone "oh that don't sound right we best look into that"... and then raised it with me.. they had the car for a very long period of time last year.... plenty of time to hear the noise coming from the supercharger. And now to be told that the early units were not of a great quality.... why didn't they just put a new one in at the same time as doing the engine replacement!</div><div><br></div><div>It was like the paint job to correct the damage done to the door... they call me over (its an hours trip in traffic)... the car is parked in their car park... I went over to look at it and it looked like someone had used red lipstick to try and touch it up.. that's how bad it was. I went into the service desk and said "have you actually gone and had a look at the paint job"... reply from service chap"no I was informed it was perfect"... well you best come take a look.... upon inspection the service chap was horrified.. "that's got to go straight back to the body shop that's not acceptable at all".. so then another week.. another wasted journey....</div><div><br></div><div>Keep Smiling... these things are sent to try us...</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

Thats disgraceful!!!! I don't understand these mechanics, if you can call them that, don't they have any pride in their work considering that they are in the "luxury" car market? Its beyond me. Make a major complaint to the top guy in Jaguar and tell them that your dealer are all a bunch of cowboys, not in those exact words though, and also tell them that you are a member of this forum with well over 400 F Type owners that have seen your detailed accounts of the unfortunate problems with your car. Im convinced that this is an isolated case with a dealer that it's quality of service is very questionable.<div>Keep smiling Steve as you say.</div>

So sorry you are having such a bad time with it Steve. I think you are doing the right thing to try and work with the dealer...but as others have said, might be time to add a bit more force to your discussions.<div> </div><div>Sincerely wish you the best of luck, and hope you get a resolution soon to get your spirit for the car fully back where it belongs.</div><div> </div><div> </div>

<div>
Hi Pete</div><div>I'm currently in conversation with Lorraine Swaby , it is probable that I will be going down the line of rejecting the vehicle as I have lost all faith in it to be honest and the ownership experience has been overshadowed with all the issues. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

Hi Steve<div><br><div>How have you got on with Jaguar/your dealer? I've had some similar issues but fortunately have been dealt with swiftly. </div><div><br></div><div>I have a 2014 V6S Coupe which was an ex Jag directors car. From day one it had the speaker rattle, which finally, after a year of perseverance and patience, has been solved, many thanks to Tel for posting the bulletin which I forced them to carry out, which addresses the rattles (correcting insulation and speaker mounting). </div></div><div><br></div><div>Over the last year I've had the exhaust rattle, which took 2 visits to fix, but both occasions the car was only required for a day, and also the supercharger tick, which they were aware of and the dealer had the car for one day to address. </div><div><br></div><div>I also had a squeak from the carbon ceramic discs, which took 3 - 4 visits before they agreed to change the callipers and pads, which addressed the issue.</div><div><br></div><div>The dealer - Listers Droitwich - have been helpful and happy to address the issues I've reported, but are let down by poor technicians and an inability to address or fix the problem raised without repeated visits.</div><div><br></div><div>This seems to be a similar theme for F Type owners, the dealers are not up to speed with Jaguar's bulletins and not aware of the issues, and Jaguar have been reluctant to offer proper assistance for too long.</div><div><br></div><div>I believe Tel got a replacement vehicle after a similar argument so given the number of issues you've experienced it seems the most realistic option. An extended warranty is helpful, but if you continue to have issues it's still a huge inconvenience. </div><div><br></div><div>Best of luck finding a solution.</div>

<div>
Hi , yes I'm still in discussion with Jaguar at the moment for a resolve...</div><div>It went in for the new supercharger unit to be fitted.. then surprise surprise 2 days later more exhaust grating noises !... so then it had to go back again yesterday for a new exhaust back box.... they recon something was up with the valves...</div><div>service has been good from my dealer , I get on with them well , Whilst I was waiting yesterday they lent me a V8 Coupe Ftype for an hour to go and have a blast in instead of waiting about... </div><div>Still having issues with the ECO mode Stop/Start but again another "flash" has been done to the software so will have to see what happens. Long term though my confidence has diminished in the car... its a case of "whats next" .. One thing is for sure , I don't see why I should loose money on mine to just get a replacement car for piece of mind... I have emailed my contact again at jag HQ to chase up what is happening.</div><div><br></div><div>Regards</div><div>Steve</div><div><br></div>

Oof, I'm not suprised you've lost faith Steve, sounds like a nightmare :( Hope you get a nice Monday morning build slot replacement - i think the work experience kid had a hand in yours!

I have had a 2014 V6S coupe from new, bought from Marshall Jaguar Ipswich, echoing comments here, I have lavished attention on the car to keep it immaculate but the gremlins are starting to manifest themselves. <div><br><div>No issues with the interior but so far a shunt in the drive train has been fixed, active exhaust valve failure has been rectified but now I have a rattle on start up, fuel pumps are being replaced or at least they would be if the dealership had ordered the correct parts, hot engine ticks like a tappet was sticking, no diagnosis offered as they took out old fuel pumps before testing the car??? (could it be the supercharger) and I also have the rattling exhaust (which stops when the loud button is switched on) so I assume it is rattling flaps, again no diagnosis offered yet.</div><div><br></div><div>Hoping to get these issues resolved but it is so frustrating dealing with service assistants who appear to know nothing of any technical relevance and who are therefore unable to offer any form of "service" other than booking the car in.</div></div>

I notice an exhaust rattle on start but it clears after about 20 secs and doesn't return. It rattles a tiny bit on switch off. <br /><br />Are you all reporting your gremlins (if the dealers can't / won't sort them) to Jaguar CRC?<edited><editID>MOz</editID><editDate>2017-01-07 13:01:40</editDate></edited>

I have not yet experienced sufficient difficulties to escalate matters, but if Marshalls cannot sort these issues I will have to take it further, they are all known issues and have appeared as TSB's on the TOPIX website, what is the CRC ?

Jaguar Customer Relations Centre. <br /><br />It looks after main dealer quality issues really but they may be able to help and take all enquiries very seriously.

<div> </div><div>There are well known and documented TSB's relating to the issues you have, exhaust and supercharger. It is a simple case for your dealer to bring them up on the TopiX system, order the parts, fit them and put the claim in to HQ.</div><div> </div><div>Unfortunate it seems too often the case with JLR, that the dealer is brand inept.</div><div>Not that it's any consolation for you, but it has taken three, yes 3 dealerships to finally settle with one that gives a sh!t. Only problem is, the one, possibly two persons that do care and are the slightest bit useful seem be moved around dealerships...</div>

Back box is being replaced, two new fuel pumps have been fitted and an idler gear replaced, all very well and good but it took an additional trip to the dealer as they "could not hear the exhaust rattle" that is not until I turned up at the dealership and started the engine in front of a mechanic who then heard it immediately. Does anyone know what the position is on items replaced under warranty? do they get a year or what?
