Missing Service History Help

Hi, I'm sorry, I put this question at the end of another chat query which may not have been the right thing to do. So, just in case, I've created this now: Can someone help me please and provide some advice. I am really keen on purchasing an F-type Awd and one has come up for sale. It is a 20 plate but has been procured by the independent garage without any service history available. It has 24,000 miles on the clock. The indy has put it through a major service (Jagtec in Nottingham) but cannot provide any history before that. Can someine help me please? Should I be concerned, walk away, or is there a good reason for the missing history since new. The registration plate is FL20XKS. I have never owned a Jag and this looks like a gorgeous car. I'd appreciate the advice and help.

Hi and welcome
Member SimpleR will be able to help you based upon the reg number

If you have a VIN number enter it here to see the FSH as recorded by Jaguar. If not here then it's going to be hard to prove given the seller doesn't have anything

Too new for an MOT - due in July

Personally I'd walk away if it turns out to have no service history given it should have a pdi and annual services in 2021 and 2022. it will be hard to sell, but let's see what comes back.

Is there any reason you can think of why it wouldn't have had pdi or services thereafter?

Any decent garage knows the service history is online, so why not look it up and hand you a print out?
Separately we do see F types with many missed services. A combination of no adhering to annual services possibly because low mileage or thinking biannual and last few years with covid causing missed services
I hope it does prove to have a good full service history.

Hi cj10, the garage has been up front with the lack of service history. They had a look and couldn't find anything (so they say). I'm a bit wary. It just seems really strange with no service history for the first 3 years and I'm hoping from the experienced guys/girls on this site, that I can get to the bottom of it or get some good advice. I'd say the car is about 8 grand cheaper than it should be, which makes me all the more suspicious. Really appreciate the help and it will be interesting to get to the bottom of it some how.

Car 67866, V6S AWD Chequered Flag Edition in Carpathian Grey from 13th July 2020.

It was manufactured earlier in 2020 and had a flat battery on 1st July 2020 at 2:14pm as it was connected to Jaguar for a battery charge and check at Jaguar Nottingham. It was PDI'ed on the same date before being sold on 13th July 2020 to its first owner.

It was never seen again by Jaguar. It next appears at JagTech on 14th February 2023 with 26,259 miles for its first recorded service. It also doesn't list number of previous owners of DVSA data.

I would recommend a check of the V5C and if there is no servicing paperwork for the 3 missing years, and if service history/maintenance and previous owner care including possible future retail value is important to you, then you continue your search elsewhere.

Price wise it should be around £37k to £40k depending on condition.

Hi simpleR, thanks so much for supplying this info. You know what they say when something seems to good to be true and that's probably the case with the price of this car. In your experience, is there any reason why the service history would be missing. Could it be a simple oversight on the dealerships part on not updating things online, or just lack of car on the owners part or something more sinister? It seems really odd to me that an owner wouldn't stick to the service plan, but I'm a stickler for that kind of thing, which is why I'll not go near the car unless I can get to the bottom of the service history. I actually called Jaguar Nottingham this afternoon for help, but their Service Dept is closed on a Sunday. Do you have the VIN number you could supply me to help me follow up with them in case they ask?

How much is it up for?

I'll send the VIN on a PM now.

Service history is missing because it either was not done or done by a non Jaguar garage who don't have access to the system.

If it was done at a main dealer then it would be recorded because that triggers the invoicing off the system I believe.

Thanks simpleR. The car is for sale on Autotrader at £42,980 at a place in Sutton-in-Ashfield. You'll see it if you look it up. It's a nice looking car. What's you hunch?
Seperately for my future reference, was the reliability for the Y coolant pipes resolved from this year of manufacture. I've read a few horror stories, so it's something I'd like to know more about and watch out for. Thank you

Over priced then by £3k to £5k.

I would recommend a check of the V5C and if there is no servicing paperwork for the 3 missing years, and if service history/maintenance and previous owner care including possible future retail value is important to you, then you continue your search elsewhere.

I have seen no horror stories of Y coolant pipe failures other than some have split and required replacement. My car is an MY18 from May 2017 and now 6yrs old and 44,000 miles complete and no issues. But it has been serviced to schedule LOL.

Good stuff simpleR. If you pass that VIN to me, I'll make my enquires tomorrow and update here with the outcome. Really appreciate your help. Thanks again.

I believe the revised pipes were fitted at some point during the MY18 production run. Early builds (mine :() have the original ones.

Hi, just to update. I used the VIN number to obtain Service details from a Jaguar dealership, although not from the Nottingham branch that originally sold the car, they didn't call me back despite trying twice. Another dealership just confirmed what simpleR had already told me on this forum, so thanks again simpleR. If I could get a hold of the previous owner to confirm that no services were carried out, I would. But that's a difficult task. What I'll say, is that with this car and a few others I have looked at, service history is missing 2020 and 2021 quite regularly...... COVID has got a lot to answer for I think.
