Mirror Caps

I wouldn't do that no.
It's likely the same as on the XE - I managed to drive out of the works car park past a van with its tail lift raised and just touched the cap enough to mark it!
I would use a plastic trim removal tool - Halfords do a bunch for about a tenner - or something suitable from the kitchen drawer.
First adjust the mirror electrically fully in and down, then gently lever the glass to pop the connecting ball out of the socket.
That then gives you internal access to gently prise the tabs on the cap to release it.
This is from memory so best to check against your Ikea instructions!
