That's more a reflection on drivers who haven't demonstrated they're sufficiently competent to drive manual cars. Regulators have been deskilling drivers for some time now with so called "aids" Now we can't even be trusted to keep to speed limits, apparently. Treat drivers like children and guess what - they'll behave like them!
 
You're not wrong but I think you can also argue that latest generations don't want to put the time to learn anything properly, everything is too difficult and parents do a terrible job at challenging their kids.
