Main dealer or detailed/specialist?

Hi All, after much deliberation over which colour to go for I’ve decided to get my brake callipers painted! My local Jaguar dealer have previously told me they could do them for me but there’s a smart looking detailer nearby too. Their website looks fantastic anyway.
Has anyone got any views on who would do the best job?
PS I’m going for yellow!! 😉
Cheers

I only use dealers for warranty work - independent specialists are generally better for what they specialise in. BTW, if you go for yellow you might put off potential buyers if you ever decide to sell - carbon ceramic brakes (yellow caliper) are expensive to replace!

I'd be very surprised if the dealer does the work themselves - far better to find someone local with good feedback I reckon.

Thanks scm Might have to think about the colour again! 😂

Hi, thanks for the advice. Always good to support local businesses 👍

To add further to your dilemma - some folks like the CCBS as they're a lot less dusty than the steel ones!

Think I’ll leave it for now and go for a bank holiday drive instead!! 🤣🤣

Based on the advice I think I’m going to use pyramid car care in Worcester. Good website and reviews @ pyramidcarcare.co.uk
Just wondered whether anyone has heard of them or maybe even used them before?
Cheers

Some dealers do. I've used a bunch of different dealers to service my Jags over the years and the one I've used the last few years always paints the calipers when they do the brakes. I noticed it once when I had them change the rear pads on my last car... after picking up the car I noticed that the rear calipers were freshly painted and when I got in touch to thank them they just said it's standard procedure free of charge. And they didn't even charge as much for the pad job as some other dealers. :) Having said this though, this dealer is probably an exception and I'd also prefer a local specialist over a dealer for a brake paint job.

Independent every time.
I’m Italian Racing Red, black pack, satin black wheels, and……. I went for yellow callipers. Very happy with the look & lots of compliments.

Of course, if you don’t drive it much, the rust patina on the discs, together with the yellow callipers, will look very much like CCBS brakes 😉

Thanks Bob. Will share some photos when work is done 👍

Hi Chaps, well she’ll be ready to pick up this Sunday morning. Decided on yellow callipers in the end along with a stage one polish, a five year ceramic coating and a few other bits, as you do when you get started! 🤣 Will post plenty of pics!
Is it normal to be the most excited I’ve been for years!? 🤣

Perfectly normal, to be otherwise would be highly suspicious!

Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Morning scm and all! Was up bright and early to pick her up as soon as possible! Here’s some pics. Not an expert like you guys but I think pyramidcarcare near Worcester have done a pretty good job with the callipers and ceramic coating. I managed to find some black wheel centre caps on line which I think look better than the red with the yellow callipers. Also found some Jaguar calliper decals too which are exactly the same as the originals.

Still having to keep pinching myself she’s mine! 😁

Looks fantastic!

One thing you have yet to learn is the alignment of the centre caps - we like the growler's chin to be pointing at the valve! You've got the locking nut correctly positioned in line with the valve and the centre cap, so you've scored full marks there! (It's just a bit of OCD pedantry, not to be taken too seriously)

Thanks scm. Love the OCD with the growlers chin!! 🤣 Will get it sorted at once! 👍👍

Just need a meet now to show her off. There doesn’t seem many in the midlands area. I went to the supercharged Saturday meet at Gaydon BMM and I think they have a breakfast meet every month but not much else going on really. Do you know of any in the midlands/warks/worcs areas?
Cheers

I noticed that the centre caps on our XE are all aligned with the valves. This would have been done at the factory, as it's never had the tyres off. So perhaps not such an OCD pedant after all!

Centre caps pull out easily using a bit of gaffer tape, if realignment is needed
