Louder Start

I know that there was a software update to the F-Type that cleared the memory so the car wouldn't remember being in Dynamic Mode. Therefore, when the engine starts, the valves are closed.

However, what happens if you turn on the ignition, switch into Dynamic Mode and then start the car? Will this result in a louder start?

Or do the valves only open once the engine is actually on (rather than just the ignition?)

Not sure you've got that right - my MY18 has had the update to cancel dynamic mode on startup but my valves always open on start. So ignition on, dynamic mode on, doesn't make any difference to how loud mine starts. On a pedantic point, the car does remember being in dynamic mode as you can see when you start up - the display shows in red and then it cancels.

Lots of variation on when and how the valves open across the MYs, though, so I guess "it depends".

On my car, if you do just that - either enable Dynamic OR press the 'make the exhaust go loud' button and then start the engine, yes, it starts with a bit more drama. That's on an MY21 P450.

EDIT: But I do recall the 'quieter starting' being one of the things Jaguar made some noise about (ho ho, I'm so funny) for the MY21 facelifted models, so it's possible that putting it in Dynamic or pressing the exhaust button just reverts it to how it used to sound on startup, and therefore an older model variant won't sound any louder?

The older cars, at least, use vacuum to close the valves. So they always start loud until the vacuum is generated whatever the setting. Are the newer models different to this?

I think mine uses vacuum but not from the engine, I’m not sure but I think mine has vacuum pumps that are electrically driven?

Most of these were replaced by JLR under a service bulletin. They replaced the pump with a direct manifold connection
