Loud button - already a standard fit?

I'm sure the vast majority of us have ordered the 'loud button' option at the princely sum of £350, however, both S models come standard with active exhaust systems which is switchable as standard without the option. How? Simply by selecting "dynamic mode"...so why have we all spent £350?<img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley29.gif" border="0" alt="Wacko" title="Wacko" />

I am probably wrong here but here I go.<div> </div><div>I think the S models have Active Sports Exhaust as standard which means that above a certain number of engine revs 3500? the exhaust valves open automatically to provide audible driving experience.</div><div> </div><div>The £350 option buys you a switch to open the exhaust valves early so you make pops and crackles most? of the time.</div><div> </div><div> </div>

I don't think that you are wrong, however, during my two day loan of a 3.0 S I noted that even at a constant speed ie the motorway, by switching in and out of dynamic mode would clearly change the exhaust note in exactly the same way when manually selecting the £350 optional active exhaust switch. I also found that the active exhaust attracted perhaps too much attention driving through town or was all the head turning down to the beautiful lines of the F Type. :)

Yes, I did not go for the 'special' button because you get the exact same response in dynamic mode. Once you have played with it for a few days the novelty will probably wear off anyway.

Novelty yes but having told my wife it was essential have the heart to tell her that it came free in Dynamic mode and its her car :)

Yes AndiC but it has one other advantage.<div> </div><div>It allows you to engage extra noise without introducing sharpening of the throttle response, increasing the steering weighting and altering the gear change speeds.</div><div> </div><div>So you can wake up the neighbours without putting tyre marks on their tarmac!</div><div> </div><div>Well it sounds good literally and figuratively.</div><div> </div><div> </div>

true, you would have to go into mad mode to get the exhaust noises you want. To be honest I would have bought the 'special' button if I had the chance, but I bought a cancelled order instead which did not have it.

it's a "must have" imho....<div><br></div><div>my only gripe is that it always starts in "loud off" and you have to turn it on, rather than the other way round.... most of the time i want to hear that soundtrack to my journey so my normal routine is push "start" button; push "loud" button; select "drive" and go, go, go<span style="line-height: 1.4;"> !</span></div>

I don't know about you, but do you notice that the button does not always engage when you first start the car, maybe it is to do with the temperature of the engine ? any thoughts ?

no, never experienced that issue. have taken a few days to check in case i just hadn't noticed it, but loud button engages every time, even when only seconds after starting....<div><br></div>

Seaborne - a reply to an old post; you are right in thinking the loud button doesn't appear to engage on start up. As you rightfully identified it only happens when it's cold. The engine management system diverts all it's attention to bringing the engine up to temperature before retuning the exhaust and using extra fuel for the sound effects.
