Locking wheel nut

The cover on one of the locking wheel nuts has corroded and I think probably advisable these are replaced before they fail and become difficult to remove.

I’d appreciate views on what best to replace with, it appears there are two - three different types -

https://accessories.jaguar.com/gb/en/f-type/wheels-wheel-accessories/wheel-accessories/t2r10816-locking-wheel-nuts/#tertiary-tabs

Is one better than the other?

Also, is it possible to get solid wheel nuts - both locking and standard - if so, where best to source them?

Thanks.

Jaguar do sell solid wheel nuts with the Jaguar logo in black and chrome and also a solid locking nut. Part nos: C2D20073 (black) or 72 (silver) and the locking ones T2R8106. These aren’t cheap, but can be found sometimes on eBay. There are also much cheaper non Jaguar options.

The standard fitted 2 piece ones imho are terrible as they corrode under the shiny cover and you only find out when they break off or can’t be removed. I replaced mine with the Jaguar logo ones.

I replaced the locking wheel bolts on my car with standard wheel bolts. Less hassle, less to go wrong and easier. Let’s face it, who nicks wheels these days! They probably wouldn’t have a jack small enough anyway…

Thanks for the links, the links to the non locking nuts work, the link to the locking nuts goes to bonnet vents.

Are you referring to these https://accessories.jaguar.com/gb/en/f-type/wheels-wheel-accessories/wheel-accessories/c2d42935-locking-wheel-nuts-black/#tertiary-tabs only they do not have the Jaguar logo on them.

You are probably right, but I’d rather not take the chance.

Yes those are the locking ones I mean, sorry I might have mistyped the code from the catalogue page. And yes they don’t have the logo. The are actually made by McGard and can be found without Jaguar packaging for a lot less than the £124 on the Jag site. I do have the code somewhere and will share when I am home at the weekend.

Thanks for pointing me towards McGard.

They have a configurator on their website which shows the code for the locking nuts for the F Type.

https://configurator.mcgard.de/en/

And also this which may be useful if anybody wants to check measurement details.

I've had problems with locking wheel nuts recently.

Took the car for new tyres, garage split one of the Jaguar wheel nuts when taking it off.

I bought a new set direct from Jaguar and they fit them for me. Fairly reasonable at about £95, but still money I would rather not have spent.

Literally two weeks later I went in for a wheel refurb and got a call two days in saying they had unfortunately split one of the (brand new) locking wheel nuts.

Luckily the wheel refurb place was very professional and ordered me some new locking wheel nuts and fit them for me (unlike the tyre place)

...but not more of the truly ridiculous Jaguar ones with what I can only describe a 'split' design, like the ones in your photo.

Avoid.

I assume you mean this shape as the problem locking nuts

https://accessories.jaguar.com/gb/en/f-type/wheels-wheel-accessories/wheel-accessories/t2r10816-locking-wheel-nuts/#tertiary-tabs

As opposed to this type - also available in chrome and other makes

Yes and yes.

The ones in the first photo cost me 90 odd quid for nothing, and make me angry looking at them how stupid the design is ! :)

The only positive I can count is that neither of the splits happened when I was at the side of the motorwaty in inclement weather.

I posted about this some weeks ago and one or two people jumped to the defence of Jaguar, pretty much claiming that only a fool could split them.

Well, I must be very unlucky to have met two such fools within only a couple of weeks.

I’ve replaced the locking wheel nuts with a set from McGard.

This is one of those taken off

It may not have become a problem to undo, but I rather not take the chance.

Looks strangely familiar.

Not only designed with a high likelihood of spitting in half but also totally unable to resist water ingress.

Remind me, how much do these vehicles cost ?

I've got three rusted ones and three brand new ones here for the highest bidder (reserve set at £95).
