Just got my V6S Coupe

Collected my F Type V6S Coupe on Wednesday, still looking for excuses to drive anywhere, even in this weather. Was planning on waiting at least a year until the coupe had dropped a little more in price and I could afford it but heart ruled head and I essentially sold a kidney and risked a marriage to get it now. <div><br></div><div>I have no regrets!</div><div><br></div><div>(But how do I use launch control?)</div><div><br></div><div><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/451/IMG_3624.JPG" height="466" width="700" border="0" /><br></div>

Hi MaxD,<br><br>Welcome to the forum - your new motor looks fabulous.<br><br>Launch control is on the V6S and is operated as per the instructions below:-<br><br><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/349/launchc.jpg" height="700" width="525" border="0" /><br><br>Take it easy whilst the cold weather is with us - the tyres work best when it's quite a bit warmer!<br><br>Regards.<br><br><br>Scoobydoo<br>

In other words, just floor it!<br /> <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Forget the book on using launch control. Ensure you are in sport and dynamic, then simply pull and hold the up shift paddle for around two seconds and the car will go into 'race mode'. S will be displayed on the dash board, the car will be in launch mode. You can put the car in this mode at any speed whilst you are driving. <br />For extra confidence at the lights. Select first and then pull the up shift paddle. The car will select second and then go back into first. <br />'Race mode' as I have coined it will select the most appropriate gear to keep the car on the boil. It will come down the box as quickly as you brake too. As soon as you change gear manually it returns to normal manual mode. <br />This procedure also works on my XFR as well as my 3.0 S Roadster, (although there's no launch mode on V8s with electronic diffs)<br />You won't find this one in the manual and your dealer probably won't know this functionality is bust in.<br /><br />"Don't run with the crowd, drive a Jaguar"

Does that procedure show 'launch mode active' on the dashboard? That's just how you put it back on sports shift once you've used to the paddles (my understanding anyway)<br /><br />Launch mode locks the torque converter for take off from standstill as far as i knew.

yes. if you put your foot on the brake and apply some power, the lauch control caption appears - use it all the time and have done so over the last 15000 miles we've had the car. you have to be in Sports shift and dynamic.

The great thing is, even in slippery conditions, the car will give the Max it can without breaking traction, it will even short shift if to reduce torque. it handles it much better than my R.<div><br></div><div>Enjoy!</div>

Always good to let new cars bed in, drag it out 1000 miles but that's it, or you'll be waiting for ever to enjoy your car, remember, if it breaks it's under warranty. No idea what the book says. do they actually state a running in period - you don't even have to take them back after 500 miles to have the head bolts checked...moderdern technology hey?

The launch control works really well,<div><br></div><div>A mate of mine had been begging for a fight for months when I got my F Type V6S, he has a 2009 Porsche Carrera S, so once mine was run in (I did 2000 miles) we when out for the day to have some fun, a couple of things became evident, there was no way that I could shake him on the twisty roads, he was able to stay with anything I could do, and tit for tat, it was the same the other way round when I was following him, however when we got on a straight I had a very slight advantage, which was a little strange if you look at the power to weight ratios for each car, as the Porchse has a slight advantage here, however he is running 385PS and of course I an 380PS, but there is a marked improvement on torque which may explain it. But the main factor in my option is that I also run Shell Nitro Plus Super unleaded and he does not (there is another discussion on the forum about this) and as far as I can feel when driving the car, this gives a noticeable improvement in drive and performance.</div><div><br></div><div>Anyway to finish the story off, we also did a drag from a set of traffic lights, nice and warm engines and tires, warm sunny day, air temp around 26degC, we agreed to go on 'Green', first to 100mph, of course I used launch control and set the car into full auto sport, so I did not cock up the gear changes <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley20.gif" border="0" alt="Thumbs Up" title="Thumbs Up" /> what happened was unexpected, the Porsche was completely wasted, at 100mph, I was four car lengths ahead, my mate was not satisfied and complained that his lane had more grit on it, so we did it again but swopped lanes, and the same again, but almost five car lengths this time. Now I believe there are a few reasons for this, firstly the fuel as already discussed, but secondly and most importantly his car is a manual and although the book say 4.5s 0-60mph and 9.6s 0-100mph my mate cannot get near to these numbers (he has a Vbox meter to measure) the best he could achieve on our two runs was 4.9s 0-60mph and 10.8s 0-100mph. So being the bad looser he is, he fitted the Vbox in my car and wanted to come for a ride, and I said, I will do the run with the Vbox but not with his 'lard ass' in the car, interesting the figures 4.4s 0-60mph and 10.1s 0-100mph, now I could say this was my expert driving, but the truth be known I would be talking sh*te, I think it comes down to the launch control system and maybe the fact that I had very little fuel in the car.</div><div><br></div><div>I am sure if I was to run next to a 2014 Porsche Cerrera S with PDK, the story might be reversed, as they have launch control as well, but as a snapshot in time, it was an interesting tail of events.<img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley20.gif" border="0" alt="Thumbs Up" title="Thumbs Up" /></div><div>Best Regards</div><div><br></div><div>Jamie</div>

Unfortunately we don't have it in the V8 - Guess it would tear the thing in two!<div><br></div><div>I wonder if he factored in the reduction in WHP from his Carrera, as it's now knocking on 5 years old. You'de be surprised just how much power is lost over time, especially if it is not totally 'tip-top'.</div><div>I think Top Gear did something on this?</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

That's good to know, especially for any upcoming traffic light show downs, I'll be sure to check the reg first though! <br /><br />Could it also be your friends driving... You've got to be pretty slick to get a good start in a manual, I guess that would have rubbed salt in the wounds though! <br /><br />Jaguar lent me a standard V6 for a weekend whilst I was deliberating between coupe and convertible back in the summer and I had some fun on the M1 with a 911 Carrera. We got to 150 before I had to lift as the missus was crying by this point and he was all over my tail anyway. I think that swayed my decision to go for the S although the standard car really is capable too. The moral of the tale is that we ended the 'race' with the 911 driver moving over to let me past and dropped his window to indulge in the engine note as I passed with a huge grin and thumbs up. The F Type has so much emotion it more than makes up for the difference in all out performance to a 911. <br /><br />Incidentally I drove the R at Milbrook too, incredible performance but I preferred the feel of the S and its agility, which convinced me of the V6 rather than the V8. Concerned I'd be mostly sideways in the R in these conditions, which has happened a few times in mine already. Maybe I should have waited for the AWD... Argh never satisfied! No wait, I just started the engine again.... I am.

Well, after 2000 miles, can someone tell me how to stop grinning . Marvelous car, got the ladies interested .<div> </div><div>AWD has not been used to date, roads or good! </div>

How can you not grin? - Fabulous car and even better roads!<div><br></div><div>Just completed a Jag Enthusiast Club Tour of Brittany and the roads were the best (smoothest and cleanest even on the minor country roads) and uncluttered...now I know where all our Euro funding goes ;-)</div>
