Jaguar XK8 AJ6 overly complex timing chain issue

I found this video of the problem with this XK8 interesting. It has the AJ 6 engine.

Does anyone know if this problem was rectified with the AJ engines that came after.

I cannot understand why Jaguar would use such a complex timing chain set up.

If it was as "notoriousl;y unreliable" as stated, the internet would be awash with horror stories about it - and the engine is used not just in Jags but also in Land and Range Rovers. Americans love to rubbish European cars because they often don't have the expertise to support them.
