Jaguar roadside assistance and tyre repair/replacement

Hi all,

I've travelled up to N Wales and picked up a puncture. The PSI has dropped 8 over night.
I called ATS but they can't get me a tyre for 2 weeks. He suggested a Jaguar dealer as they have priority access to tyre supplies.

I was wondering, as the car is still less than a year old, could I just push the assistance button in the roof console and get the roadside van to come out? If that's the case are they just likely to fill it with the gloop and send me to a Jag garage or would they bring a tyre and actually replace it on the driveway?

Yes, press the assistance button.
Unlikely they’ll bring a tyre.
It’s your car so you can refuse the gloop option.
Good luck in a prompt resolution.

I had a valve replaced on the drive when I had a slow puncture. Jaguar Assist came out.
They said if it couldn't be replaced, and as I have no spare, they would take the wheel to Jaguar and return with it the following day.
Jaguar assist would be the first point of call if you cannot find a tyre in stock anywhere.

I called the dealer here and they've only sold one rear tyre, back in March and never bought another back in to stock so they can't help me either as it would take several weeks to get it.

I've actually got the car booked in for its first service in early December so I've just emailed them and said you've got 4 weeks to get a tyre in and I'll keep pumping it up.

I had a flat tyre at home. I carefully explained to Jaguar Assist that I already had a spare tyre that needed fitting to the wheel. Assist sent an AA guy who offered to plug the tyre but couldn't fit the spare tyre. So I wouldn't rely on assist unless a plug would work.

Can you not visit a decent tyre dealer near you to see if they can just repair the puncture? Presumably the tyre is not badly damaged if it is only a slow puncture. AFAIK punctures can be safely repaired except sometimes if they are on the shoulder of the tyre, where a patch might not adhere properly.

Yes I guess I could go and get it looked at. I'm probably just thinking that to lose that much pressure in that short time it's less likely to be repairable. I pumped it up again this morning so I'll see what the PSI is like tomorrow.

Think you will be surprised. As long as the puncture isn't on the edge or the sidewall you will be able to get it repaired.

As others have said, almost definitely repairable if it’s such a minor leak, depending on the position of the hole. I wouldn’t bother waiting for the main dealer - they won’t just give you a new tyre if it is repairable anyway I wouldn’t have thought. I had one done in the summer for about £20 locally - simply not worth the risk of waiting for that price.

This is a good read. http://www.dexel.co.uk/blog/british-standard-tyre-puncture-repair/
And here is an image from Tyrz who did mine.

When I bought my 2010 XKR in 2013 I got it home to find a screw in a rear tyre. Local tyre place plugged it for £15, with the advice not to take it full gas round the Nurburgring. The fix lasted as long as the rest of the tread, which isn't long in an XKR!

I too had a puncture,tyre went flat,.
Pressed button for Jaguar Assist who arranged for a truck to pick car up and take to nearest Tyre Shop(PB Tyres,Oswestry) who had none in stock but rang around and "borrowed one" from a Competitor.
