Jaguar Newbie

Hi Guys,<br /><br />New to Jaguars, have only owned BMW's the past few years. Currently have an M4 which is awesome but fancy a change. Wanted to go for an M6 but I feel like giving another marque a try and the F-Type is an obvious choice!<br /><br />Initial thoughts are to go for a V8 R as 550HP is the obvious choice coming from a 430HP M4 <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> <br /><br />I have a budget of approx 55k, hopefully this is reasonable for a decent used car?<br /><br />I do a trackday in the M4 every other month and the V8 R looks to be best suited for this. <edited><editID>amarxyz</editID><editDate>2016-12-28 13:41:09</editDate></edited>

Welcome to the board! I'd definitely test drive the V8 and the V6S. We came out of a fairly powerful(and very light) track tuned Nissan 200SX and found the V8 disconcertingly nose heavy (although I think with hindsight it might have been an AWD) and despite going in to buy a V8, very much preferred the V6 S, particularly as I'm quite attached to my license ;) <div></div>However there is no denying the V8 is very very fast (we called it warp drive, there is a slight delay almost as if to say "Is sir quite sure?" and then the view blurs, the horizon arrives at the nose of the car and all the folks behind you become little lego cars). And coming out of an M4 which is itself a bigger vehicle the V8 might be the one for you, I think the jump from a light car to something the size of the Jag was a big part of what tinted our views.<div></div><div>Honestly whatever you get you'll have a blast (and if you are taking it to Brands you'll also be very popular, they were desperate to get mine on track when I took it up there as a spectator ;p The Jag doesn't go on the track yet, I fear expensively running out of talent at an inopportune moment ;o). They are the most fun car I've been in never mind owned and I haven't regretted the purchase for a minute, even when trying to pack stuff in the boot :P</div><div> </div><div>Happy Hunting!</div><div> </div><div>Jess</div><div> </div><div> </div>

Thanks Jess. That's very sound advice and I'm going to be heading down to Thames Ditton Jaguar this weekend to get a feel of the V6 and V8 cars.<div><br></div><div>I've watched some YouTube videos of the F-Type, especially on the "Seen Through Glass" channel and that has got me even more excited! <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" alt="Big smile" title="Big smile" /></div><div><br></div><div>Looking forward to joining the club!</div><div><br></div><div>Amar</div>

I got my V6 S Convertible from Thames Ditton Jag.<br />Sales team seemed ok when I agreed the purchase but was disappointed that they didn't prep the car as expected when I picked it up <br />A different salesman, Marco helped sort the issues out Might be good idea to ask for him if you are going to buy from them

Welcome Amar.<div><br></div><div>Bought mine from Thames Ditton Jag, had no real issues with the sales side (although double-check the order form before you sign, the JLR system is a bit rubbish and it charged me twice for some of the options, which I only noticed after signing, and took a bit of argument to subsequently resolve).</div><div><br></div><div>As for servicing, Thames Ditton is woeful, bordering on incompetent; I have 4 different gripes from 2 separate visits in the last 4 months. Once my outstanding warranty claim is finally sorted, I won't be going back there again...I'm planning to try out HA Fox in Guildford instead as they're apparently better (Google Maps reviews comparably favourably versus Thames Ditton too). Further away of course but my blood pressure can't take it at Thames Ditton.</div>

Made the 12 week wait just about bearable! If you've not already watched it, check out the Car Throttle F-type video where he drives a red V6S. I think anyone who is debating an F-type versus another car should watch that and they'll definitely go F-type! <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley16.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

HA Fox in Guildford are pretty good. I have used them a number of times to deal with niggles and they do my maintenance too. Very diligent and professional. Not great at answering the phone in the service dept (!) ..... . ..but I cant fault the quality of the work which is the key thing ! <div> </div><div>Annaleise who is the service manager is very good ..knows her stuff ! </div><div> </div><div>Hope this helps </div>

Yep! HA Fox Guildford are very good in my opinion also. We have 2 cars supplied and serviced by them. Very professional, efficient, good with communication and nice people also (Steve and Annaliese). <br><br>e.g. our XE went in for its first service just before Christmas and I had a few small things I wanted to have checked were OK. HA Fox wanted a tech to go for a drive with me, to discuss and check everything out at drop off (he knew his stuff and again very professional). Whilst I'd have been OK with them just having a look during the service, by themselves, applying that extra focus and attention is one of the things that impresses.<br>
