Jaguar Extended Warranty Premium has Doubled!

Wow, I read on here a a few people getting a sharp increase in their premium, but didn't expect it to double!! I thought some people had let there's expire and therefore more expensive to renew.

When I bought my P450 RWD last year I insisted the seller put a Jaguar warranty on it as it turned 3 years old, it was £728. Car is about to turn 4 years old and only has 11k miles.

My renewals options are:
Premium - £1416 or £1512 with assistance
Select £1128 or £1224 with assistance (maximum claim £3000 is pointless)

After the financial pain of owning an early V6S, I promised myself I'd only ever buy another if it had Jaguar warranty AND I kept it going until 10 years old. But this is just silly. The newer car is much better built, but it's still JLR.

Living up in the NE of Scotland, I don't have the option of a local independent Jaguar specialist within a 300 miles round trip.

Has anyone had success in calling and negotiating a better price? Or is the premium increase simply a reflection on the reliability of JLR products? It is an insurance premium after all.

We have a 2020 Toyota Supra which came with a 10 year manufacturer warranty! Incredible! That's how you demonstrate confidence in your product.

I've been running my F-Type since 2020 without a warranty - it's just cost me tyres, fuel and annual servicing at a trusted independent so far. So I have well over 5 grand to cover any issues so far. Jaaaags are so reliable. In my experience.

Yup, my renewal was the same amount (and mine is a year older) but I still put aside my annoyance at the 50% increase from last year and bit the bullet. It takes one headlight failure and you're looking at the equivalent of more than 2 of these yearly payments. We're approaching the sort of timeframe where any out of the ordinary reliability problems are going to start surfacing, so I took the hit for this year and will be watching the forums like a hawk!

As for Toyota, yeah, father's RAV4 is the same, 3 years as standard but extended to 10 if you service with a Toyota main dealer each year for 7 years.

I called the number, no movement. They are saying it's because the car is now in the 3-5 year bracket, whereas it was renewed last year just before it was 3.

Thanks Jaguar, but will take my chances given the low mileage. Different if it was my daily. Also means I can stop using their dealership network for servicing next year. Just need to find someone local who knows these cars.

Yeah that's a fair point. With the Supra only requiring a servicing every 2 years (since it's BMW underneath) for £350 you get a further two year warranty (plus the service of course).

To counter that, I'm not sure an oil change helps prevent an LED headlamp from failing ;) . Obviously, in the OPs case (and mine), we have an updated design and to my knowledge there haven't been any reports of DRL failures on these, but they are a few grand each and are now getting to the sort of age where the pre-facelift failures started to become common knowledge. That's the primary reason I renewed mine this year, but I will think twice about it next year. I suspect I will also use the money saved from not taking out the warranty next year to do pre-emptive work like the metal water pipes.

I’ve got a prem warranty with ALA it don’t cover any light issues but most other items as it includes wear and tear. I had the warranty 2 weeks car went wrong o2 sensor they covered the cost at my local garage. It’s £50 a month so I’m happy to go 3rd party. I also have the option of a great local Indy.

I've renewed every year, now in 4th year of extended warranty and had two lower control arms (£2,100), new back box for stuck valves (£1,600) and a headlight (2,800) on extended warranty. Mine is due for renewal end of May but nothing came through let. But will renew anyway.

Have a close look at that Toyota/Lexus 10 year warranty. Mrs Derivative was thinking of a Lexus but the warranty doesn't cover headlamps (for example).
It just happened to be the first thing I specifically looked for in the list!

Interestingly enough my renewal prices are exactly the same as you quote above on my V6. I thought the prices would be model dependent, obviously not!

Yeah it is a bit strange. I believe there is difference between RWD and AWD.
