Jaguar extended warranty , pre claim inspection

I'm a relativly new ftype v6s owner,

I have the an issue where the centre console vent is stuck solid, will not lift nor retract.
I have jaguar extended warranty so intend to get it fixed using the warranty.
before i action this,

Can someone please talk me through how the warranty works other than calling the warranty tel no to get it booked in.
I've read somewhere that I'd need to pay a fee of about £200 for the vehicle to be inspected before it can be progerssed to the actual repair . Is this correct even though as in my case the fault can be obsereved in a few moments?

Is it up or down?
If not on auto then the vent will stay up all the time.
If the car is now of an age it’s common for it to stick, either fully down or slightly up.
A search will reveal the out of warranty removal and fix procedure but under warranty just show it to the service adviser and there’s no need for any further investigative work - just ensure they have a replacement available.
You can also choose to use an independent garage if that’s more convenient (e.g. Tom Lenthall), as long as they have the correct access and approval.
Also be aware that they will check and update and exhaust software if not already done - so either get them to write on the booking that you refuse it (they may still forget and do it - and there’s no reversal) or buy a lock for the obd port so they can’t access it.

Thanks , the vent is neither up or down, it's stuck about 2/3 up !! it's operation was lazy for a month or two but now it's just stuck.
It's a 2019 car which I've owned a couple of months so getting to that age now , I've just had to free up a stuck exhaust valve too!

So to action the warranty , is it a matter or taking it to an approved garage in the first place? or do i need to call up Jaguar exteneded warranty first ? sorry for the probably dumb question ! I've never dealt with warranty on any car in the past , the 'extended' warranty was taken out by the original owner before i bought the car , the warranty was then transfered to me.

The centre vent is sometimes problematic, and occasional lubrication of the plastic mechanism with white lithium grease, applied sparingly, is helpful. You say' Jaguar extended warranty', but this is usually a Car Care Plan warranty with Jaguar branding. I would read the warranty documentation (not sure why you've come here before doing that...) or contact the supplying dealer. It's very possible the vent is not covered, but it's only a £380 job, unless you fancy DIY in which case it's about half that, but fiddly.

I've had a look at some of the fixes for the vent , doesn't look too bad a job, though as I have the Jag extended warranty/car care plan i thought I might as well use it this time .

The warrnty handbook does not seem to exclude the vent.

But I mainly came here to ask the warranty question in case there was some insight on the best way to go about getting the warranty work carried out, as I mentioned the inspection fee to approve warranty work is something I'm hoping to avoid.

thanks :)

The vent is covered by the Jaguar extended warranty and you don’t need to phone the warranty company first.
Your issue might be getting booked in to a Jaguar dealer in a reasonable time.

I had the same problem. I had the main dealer 2 year warranty on a used car.
I rang the main dealer which was Hatfields at that time.
They booked me in, verified it was faulty and ordered a new part for the week after.
It was fitted in half an hour while I waited.

The c£200 inspection is only for owners wanting to purchase a Jaguar warranty on a car that doesn’t currently have one. Your fault should be covered and as others have said this can be done at a main dealer or a reputable indie.

It was indeed just a matter of calling my nearest main dealer who've booked me in in just over a month and will manage the warraty claim .
It'll be just an inspection at this point so will need to go back a second time for the actual repair which is a bit of a faff

Not a bit of a faff - plain stupid, but that’s main dealers for you nowadays.
Offer to send them a video of it not moving 😉
…and don’t forget the potential for unwanted exhaust noise software updates if not already applied - these are non-reversible.

I had a thorough chat with person booking me in , tried my best to explain that the vent is plainly broken and it didn't in my opinion need diagnosis beyond that , I mean it's simply stuck midway ! But she was having none of it , the car will be needed for the whole day for a master technician to diagnose it !!

Have you checked the nearside DRL in case that needs doing whilst it's in the workshop?

good point .
the left DRL is a tiny bit dimer than the right , but no LEDs ar out .
I'm guessing that's not enough for a headlight change?
