Jaguar ditching 2.0t next year!

Found this on a Facebook page. Guy (think he’s in US) adamant 2.0 being discontinued in favour of a low powered V8?
Could be across the pond but can’t see it in Uk as P300 is top seller

It's certainly true in the US and I think Australia. They don't have the P450 in their markets but did still have the V6 which was dropped in the UK last year I think. The 2L is being dropped for an all V8 market of the P450 and P575.

Not sure what they'll do here. If it passes the EU emissions rules and it sells well enough they'll keep it going. Looking on autotrader at the proportion of P300s vs P450, the 2L isn't selling that well.

Not heard that one in UK, maybe in U.S. Below are links to the number of Registrations and SORN'd F-Types.

In Oz the 2.0 litre is not stopping AFAIK, I think that is as US thing only as in the US unless it has a V8 it isn’t a real car 😂

Friend of mine was in LA at the end of 2019 and said that the majority of Ftypes he saw driving around were the 2litre 300ps. Many more on the road, than here in the UK at the time. Might just be related to emission regs in California than the rest of the US

I'm British and I fully subscribe to that sentiment...

So you subscribe to the US car design philosophy of 'put a big enough engine in a piece of $*1t and it will go?" :D

More Power!!!!!!

I think the P300 has brought the F-Type within reach of a lot more people cost-wise.
Not everybody has the funds for the V8 version when buying new.
;)

Looking at the V8 new price in the UK, only if, can get an SVR for the price of a P300 in Oz, but you do get hit hard with petrol prices

The end of my last sentence was "when buying new".
I'm sure you can buy a used SVR for the price of a new P300. in most countries.

My point is that the lower price of the P300 brought ownership of an F-Type a lot closer to a lot more people who might not have been able to afford a new V6 or V8.

A new P300 in Oz in around 80k UK prices, I paid 65k as I got it with Luxury Tax removed. What price is a new V8 UK?

... but who still wanted to drive a beautful car that other road users could admire, while they're hurting our eyes with their ugly SUVs. ;)

Having previously had a XE 300 Sport and enjoying it, The P300 suits me fine. And in the F Type, Yes, it still has all the design attributes of the bigger, faster variants, but it doesn't have the ' shouty noise' exhaust element, and that suits me, as I don't want to advertise to the neighbours every time I go out or come home, it fitted into my purchase budget and it still has enough performance and superb handling for me to enjoy or get into trouble,

To be fair, it's really only the startup that wakes the neighbours, when you come back it's perfectly easy to select D and purr home like a tame pussy.

We have a CO2 tax, so ICE's are marked-up hugely.

Yes of course, those not in the UK often have to pay higher prices.
I think the other posters do get my point which is that the P300 IN THE UK is a cheaper option which allowed some to realise their dream of owning an F-Type.
That makes it a very important model in the line up and not to be treated as any lesser car than other model variants.

PhilB, is spot on, yes I could have purchased a faster car, even some fast hatchbacks will leave me standing, but to be able to join the “ pretty car club”
at £57K new, and it turns heads, more than the usual
suspects at this price point, Is quite frankly a joy👍

Keith,

Can you please post a - glorious - photo of your car ? Quite curious how this Reims edition in French Blue looks like !

Glorious indeed !

So the color is Velocity bleu ( '' French Blue " ) ?

My car is Ultra Blue . Lake Como in the background.
