Jaguar Approved Used - Map Updates

Afternoon all,

Recently purchased F-Type from Jag dealership, and was looking to update the maps as it says it needs an update.

Logged into the jaguar Here account and it recognises that the car has been added as I've logged in to my account in the car, but there is no option anywhere on that portal which allows me to download the latest map file. Is this because you need a subscription, or am I doing something wrong?

Car is a MY19 with the pro navigation system.

Cheers,
Tom

Depending on when the car was first registered, and whether or not the previous owner paid for an extension, it is highly likely that the subscription has expired for the map updates - the car comes with 3-years of updates included.

You should have an option at the top of the 'here' site labelled 'Maps and Destinations', from where you can purchase the maps for 1 or 3 years. This is how the 'here' site looks for me when I log in and click Maps (I paid for 3 years earlier this year when my original sub expired).

It's a pity they don't offer a UK or Europe only subscription.
It's unlikely I'll be driving across siberia or Russia any time soon, and save having to download the 33 bazillion Zetabytes of data required :-)

When you go to download the update (after installing the Here download manager app), the download manager window doesn't automatically appear on top of the current open window so looks like nothing is happening.
Make sure you can see the download manager application and follow the instructions, you may need to click the icon in the task bar to make it visible.

Thanks guys, just tried again and noticed the option to buy the updates. Bit steep at £89 for a year but at least I have a way forward.

You also get live traffic data with the map subscription but it's still definitely steep and not really worth it. When my subscription last expired I didn't renew it.

I've never updated my maps and seem to get live traffic data - busy roads show as yellow or red depending on how heavy/slow moving the traffic is. Maybe it's because I have nav data enabled through my user SIM?

Hmm, sounds like you have an active map subscription then. It doesn't come automatically just because you have an active data SIM. Did you check on the here site if you have access to download new maps? I have a SIM in the car too which I use for live satellite data in the nav and streaming through the built in Spotify app but I only had the live traffic data when I had an active map subscription.

I don't have a subscription, and couldn't use it if I did since I don't run Windoze or a MAC and Here discriminates against Linux users. So is the "busy road" indication a symptom of the subscribed live traffic data? My nav often reroutes me if it thinks the road ahead is busy, too. All rather confusing!

As post #2 - it sounds as though you need to renew your map subscription.

Then, spend hours watching a progress bar on your PC whilst downloading most (if not all) of Russia, Eastern Europe, Kazakhstan Afghanistan Finland Norway, Sweden Baltic States North Korea Chile Ecuador Venezuela Iran and other places on the axis of evil you’re never likely to drive to, along with the British Isles, to a 64GB usb stick.
Fascinating, time-consuming and ridiculous.

Then, pop it into your motor ….

I'd happily pay full whack simply to avoid downloading places I’ll never go to in a billion years, let alone with a Jaguar. Whatever were they thinking of when they released that crap.

Be thankful Jag fitted USB 3 ports in the newer f-types, at least the car updating stage is fairly quick that way. My father's 2021 RAV4 only has USB 2 and the map updates take nearly 2 hours in-car and the engine has to be running or the battery flattens :|

Admittedly, the download-to-car seems to go well - ten minutes usually and never been more than fifteen!
I suppose if it were only the British Isles, the download would take about two seconds. 👍

It really sounds like you have a subscription because I can't see how you'd have the live traffic info without it. You should be able to see that if you log on to here's web site or possibly somewhere in the nav settings in the car. You can disable that auto rerouting. Never had that feature enabled because I never trusted it.

TBH the traffic data is scratchy, at best. Nowhere near as good IMHO as Waze, sadly.
Just a thought regarding subscriptions and traffic data - might the traffic stuff not be coming through the InControl service? (Which is another handy way of milking the cow for £260 a year…. 🤣) on top of the Here Map subscription fee.

I have the incontrol live/remote service but not the here junk. No traffic data here since the here map subscription expired. Agreed, that traffic data never felt reliable and I considered it as nice to have on screen when I had it but always checked waze or google maps when it really mattered. 260 per year for incontrol though? IIRC it was something like 36€ per year for me.

My last Incontrol subscription was €65 for two years, although when I tried to renew it last year the Jaguar online payment system no longer worked so they gave me a year for free. The Jaguar Here was ok for the first three years, but have been unable to log the car in since and so no longer have access to update the maps, apparently the car needs a VSS reset to re enable the login.

The high price includes tracker monitoring, the lower price is just for the remote features.
