hi ya , i know this is a bit of a lottery , i ve owned my car, a 2014 v6s at 59000 miles now ... 9 months and its been faultless , i have a jag warranty renewal due imminently for £900 should i do it ?, i just had it serviced at local main dealer stratstone for £700 ...the most expensive quote i got , health check was fine showing nothing needed doing under the existing warranty but they told me i need new front brakes and disks.... price for that was just over a grand , seemed steep and as no warning lights showed on the dash and they work fine i sought a second opinion, 50% left on pads and disks ok too, now this leaves me questioning what they say about the rest of the car and the jag warranty , love to hear peoples experiences and hopefully recommendations , cheers guys and gals

I've got an independent whom I trust and has never let me down. No real need to use main dealers except for warranty work, any VAT-registered garage can service and maintain the car without affecting warranty claims (and you won't be paying for flash premises and "free" coffee). As to whether you should renew your warranty - that's a personal matter depending on your level of risk aversion. Do check what's covered and, more importantly, what's not. I suspect your brakes won't be.

If you give us a rough idea of your location maybe a member on here can give a recommendation for someone near you.

Thanks for the reply scm , I'm based in kings x london, a pointer to a recommended indy would be great , i wasnt expecting the brakes to be covered by the warranty its just that stratsone said they needed replacing when they don't so wont be going back to them again ,laughably they also quoted me for new rear tyres the wrong sizes too! so really i m hoping to find a trusty indy , i m willing to travel as there doesn't seem to be much in central london , thanks again as i'm a newbie to jag , i 'm really enjoying the car and would like to keep it in great shape... cheers again

My indy is in Southampton, so a bit of a trek for you .... ;)
I'm sure someone on here will have closer recommendations.

Con-sumables like pads, tyres etc is where the dealer makes their income.

All dealers are taught from early in, to push the truth to the limit when it comes to these areas.

I do feel for those that maybe aren't tech savvy, because they are just being taken for a ride as is so often the case.

The trust, be it at a dealer or indy, is fundamentally what you must have and build.

Go with advice from those that have already built the bridges.

thank you scm , yes southampton is bit of a trek hopefully someone can recommend something closer to london ? hi Tel , you would hope that a mayfair jaguar dealership would try and sell you the correct tyres wouldnt you ? they also took the trouble to email me a video of the service work done on my car which was blank , masters at work, ha cheers

thank you lunar , that is closer to me and its about 100 mile round trip i ll check them out , cheers

Back to your original post, using an indie has no effect on warranty decision. Indies that are Jag friendly can deal with warranty claims. Just check with your preferred Indy.

Warranty is insurance. So if you can afford to take the chance then don’t bother.

Case in point is my Discovery 4. Notorious for large soul destroying breakdowns and bills. I’ve had it from new in 2013.

When the manufacturers warranty ran out in 2016 I bought a Warranty Direct luxury care policy. I continued this for 2 years, but in 2018 I decided not to renew it, as it was around £1000. Before it ran out my car failed it’s mot on suspension bushes front and rear. They paid £1850 to fix that and get the mot passed. This was just prior to renewal (thankfully I put it in for mot a month early) I then cancelled.

The car has just had its first major failure since then, a split manifold/rocker cover which is £800 to fix. I’ve saved £2000 since I cancelled the warranty.

So I’ve been fortunate. I known of plenty of people who have paid for warranty in good faith, only to have difficulty claiming. The Jaguar and Land Rover extended warranties do not cover ‘known issues’ such as manifolds splitting on SDV6 Discovery engines! and you would be relying on the goodwill of the dealer or JLR customer services.

Anyway, Disco is going and a new Defender arrives in Jan, so I can start the merry go round again!

hi jaguandy and rpsn , i will visit the local specialists found on the link you have sent and post if i get a good experience with them , thank you so much , i cant believe how poor my stratstone experience was i want to post something positive but , its good to share everything good and bad so fellow owners dont get ripped off cheers guys

hi gareth thanks for your reply , yes warranty is indeed a lottery ,jag are very keen to sell it to me , there doesnt seem to be much clear info out there about common parts failures on the f type apart from the super charger and mechanical limited slip diff please correct me if i'm wrong guys?

I’ve not had any problems with the Jag. I change the oils and the supercharger is working fine so far. I’ve never had a warranty after 3 years, it’s now in its 4 th year out of warranty. So saved a fair bit up for repairs.

It’s a low mileage car, so not under as much stress as my Disco.

hi gareth so we have same car same year same engine thanks for your feedback ... mine will be bit more leggy than yours though , i think i 'm leaning towards not renewing , Ive been chatting to a specialist north london jaguars about maintenance anyone got anything to say about them ? cheers

They appear to be a very good independent Jaguar specialist........can't fault the Google reviews and their website info.
