Well there seems to be a lot of negativity on this forum about the F Type but we are in our second year of ownership and on our second road trip , France Switzerland Austria and Italy on the era out and Germany litchtenstien on the way home .
Today we left England on the 8.15 train and headed down to Reims for the f1 paddock and lunch , lovely place and cruising down in 3 figures did not seem to bother the F Type !! After Reims we headed down to Nancy for our overnight stop . Austria tomorrow :-) if anybody is interested I will post up more pictures as the trip commences ?

More from Austria tomorrow if anybody is interested . Thanks Tuxman.

I wouldn't mind looking at your route and accommodation recommendations.

Excellent photos Simon. Thanks for sharing

Enjoy the rest of your trip!
So we left France at 9 this morning and headed for Switzerland , sun shinning and top down we had 700km to do on the way to Nauders in Autstria , will post details of route and accommodation when we get home . The main reason for heading to Naudes was a trip up Stelvio pass on Sunday !! Some fantastic views and the Jag in dynamic mode really sounded great through the tunnels :-) car is performing perfectly and it looks like 600km per tank full which is very good !! Had a great splat up one of the mountain passes with a Ferrari 458 , lots of hairpins and 2nd and 3rd gear straights , spoke to the guy in the Ferrari at the top and he was surprised we could keep up 😎😎
Sat with a beer now looking over the mountains ... Stunning !!

Stelvio tomorrow :-)

Great pictures, how long are you away for? Weve been debating how far we can get before running out of clean clothes ;)

Well yes Jagman guessed it day 3 was all about Stelvio and boy did it impresse !!!!
Fantastic sunshine and literally hundreds of bikers followed us up Stelvio , Dynamic mode and full manual selected we twisted and turned our way to the top !!! The sound of the Jag V6 on full song bouncing off the mountain was truly epic and we got many thumbs up and applause as we passed people on the way up !!!
Bloody fantastic is the only way I can describe it .

After leaving Stelvio we headed for Garda , a simply stunning place and home for the next 4 night !!

A simply stunning day and my favorite so far :-)
Looks like a great trip - thanks for sharing

Yes, thanks for sharing. Sounds like a great trip. Would be interested in any route details when you get back maybe, something to plan for next summer.

Well after a couple of days resting we headed into Verona , evidently somebody called Juliette is buried there ;-)
So after lots of walking and not enough beer we found a balcony and a empty rock tub !! For some reason my wife was very happy about this and kept kissing me !!! Strange behavior but soon returned back to normal after a pizza and some wine :-)
Whilst there we went to see the opera , now I've never been before and was not sure what to expect but it was epic !! Even though half the time I had no idea what was going on it was brilliant !!
Better still was the ride home , 1.30 in the morning is a great time to drive around lake Garda , full dynamic mode and empty roads added with some nice cool air and we were flying !!! The noise through the tunnels was so loud and the flashes of light from the exhaust was bloody brilliant , we must have woken up loads of Germans asleep in there hotel rooms as we blasted along the lakeside roads under the night stars . Truly epic .

Left Garda this morning and headed for an overnight stop at The Palace at Como , in true style they asked us to park the Jag out the front .

Fantastic place .

Excellent report Simon. You'll be pleased to know that while you're
having fun in the sun, most of us folk back in Blighty are damp and
cold....So make the most of it you two

While
you're bombing around lake Como....I feel the need to suggest that you
stop for a night or perhaps lunch at Belagio. It's a lovely wee place. I
haven't been for a few years, so things might have changed a bit, but
based on my last experience there, I can recommend Hotel Splendide.
Get a room on one of the higher floors with a lake view....very romantic !

Enjoy!!

Well we are home :-(
Fantastic 9 days away in the jag , ended up in faraudenstat n Germany along the route 500 through the Black Forest , absolutely lovely and Germany is a very cool place !! I'm not sure what they made of the jag , parked up at the hotel and watching some of the locals walking past they just did not seem to be able to work it out , speaking to some they had never heard of the F type and in our whole trip (7 country's ) we only saw 2 other F types !!!

So that's our road trip for this year , 7 country's over 9 days with 6 different hotels !!!! Truly epic .
Incredibly the Jag averaged 30 mpg and considering the mixture of motorways and twisty mountain roads I think that is pretty good .
Hundreds of photo's to go through and lots to think about but there is no doubt we will be planning a trip for next year !!!
My favourite photo so far .

Sorry if I bored anyone with my ramblings .

Simon

Great posts and pics!

Did you use (or feel the need for) headlamp deflectors? I wasn't sure if simply switching to lowest setting would be enough to satisfy the Europeans (particularly the gendarmes).

*edit* ignore me, just read the manual to confirm!!<edited><editID>captainham</editID><editDate>2015-09-06 15:11:30</editDate></edited>

thanks for sharing your trip - it sounds like a brilliant holiday and something that me and my other half have been talking about doing ever since we got the F type.

I don't suppose you could be pursuaded to post a summary of your intinerary ?

No problems , we have done lots of travelling in Italy and France so the mandate was to involve both countries as well as visit some places we have not been too and to take out time and not overdue the mileage , while it varied we capped the upper limit at 400 miles in one day .
Firstly if you are planning to go through France get a Sanef toll tag , you can get them online and it saves hours in the journey as you do not have to que at the tolls .

If you are going I would definitely recommend visiting

Reims town plus the old F1 pits
Stelvio pass was incredible !!
Verona was very romantic and is a good day out for the ladies , great shopping ect .
Marranello was disappointing .
Garda is fantastic and I would recommend staying at Salo or Bardalino both fantastic places although most of Garda is brilliant .

Our trip consisted of :
Day 1 Calais to Reims and then onto Nancy
Day 2 Nancy to Zurick then through Lichtenstein onto Nauders in Austria. you need to buy Swiss road tax (online) and Austrian road tax at nearest petrol station across the border.
Day 3 From Nauders we went across italatlian and back into Switzerland to use the Umbrail pass up to Borgio. then down the other side in Italy using the Stelvio pass to Stelvio and on to Brenzone Sul Garda
day 4 was a day trip out from Lake Garda south to Maranello to visit the Ferrari museum (not worth visiting in our opinion)
day 5 was a rest day
Day 6 was a late start and short trip to Verona to take in the culture and do the Opera in the arena (both awesome)
day 7 a short trip to Como after our late night, the medieval town and cathedral were lovely
Day 8 was a long push from Como through Switzerland (San gottardo pass or tunnel depending on time - we've
done the pass a couple of time before so opted for the faster route), And into Germany through the Black Forest using Route B500 to get to Freudenstadht. lots of Bavarian places to see
day 9 was our long slog home, a early morning twisting route from Freudenstadht across to Strasbourg to the. Pick up the fast, direct route across France towards Reaims A4 And then from there A1 to Calais and home.
I hope that helps , please feel free if anybody has any questions !!

brilliant - thank you for taking the time to write this - much appreciated and will certainly be a big help in planning our trip for next year

^what he said. Excellent trip report, looking forward to giving something similar a try next spring! Many thanks :)

No problems guys , happy to help !!! We had a brilliant time and are already planning out Euro hoon for next year !!!
We booked all out hotels in January and booked parking where we could to keep the F type safe !!!
Got to say the F type really turned heads which surprised me , would definitely recommend it !!
We are also looking at a toll tag for Italy as queuing at the tolls was a pain , again if anybody needs any info just ask .
