Issues with key fob

Hi, does any one have ideas on the following……
Went to start the car this morning and both key fobs not working. Checked and replaced both batteries….still no joy

Appears main battery flat, trickle charged, when initially connecting the charger alarm activated but then soon stopped. Key fobs still not working.

But the car will start albeit on every start up the key has to be presented to the dash at the spot to the right of the steering wheel.

Car runs mechanically fine but the key fobs will not work any of the electrical systems other than for intial start up ………any help appreciated. Thanks.

As reported previously, are you sure you removed any remaining packaging from the battery? Some come with a thin plastic film that some have failed to notice.

What voltage is the main battery showing without engine running.
You need to see 12.6v which I’d be surprised if you reached in a few hours of trickle charge.
Eliminate main battery given it wa# flat before chasing key fob issues

Hi
Ran in the trickle charge all night and showing good output from the battery but the issue seems to remain.
Car will accept either fob if it is presented to the dash on start up but won’t recognise either fobs for locking etc……….any thoughts appreciated.

I always check fob batteries before I fit them to make sure they're showing a full voltage - some of them have been sitting on shelves a long time. Why was the main battery flat? Have you been using the OBD port?

Hi.

Not been using the port and thing it’s been a case of needing a new main battery for the car for a while. Weird thing is that the issue is the same for both key fobs.

It's usual for the batteries in the fobs to run down at the same time, even if you leave them in a drawer. They're always working! However, since both fobs are afffected and the batteries are fresh (measure the voltages!) it looks like the problem lies elsewhere. Sort out the car battery first, and start diagnosing from a known good starting point.

I don't know what 'good output' means and elsewhere you have indicated the battery was flat. Did you measure the voltage as I suggested?
As SCM mentions you need to be clear the car battery and fob batteries are spot on (by measuring voltages), before looking for more complex issues.
After that I would disconnect the battery and reconnect to give it a reboot then test the fobs again.

Hi
I have a real problem and I’m going around in circles.

My 2019 F-Type battery went flat while I was away.
Put battery on charge & battery charger informs that the battery is fully charged.
Both key fobs now inactive and car does not recognise either.

I have tried disconnecting the battery etc as recommended in other posts.
The main battery on the car is less than a year old and is in good condition (verified by the RAC patrol and my local garage).
Both key fobs are working fine and their batteries are new (again, as verified by the RAC patrol/ my garage and a local car lock specialist.
My local garage were unable to get the car to recognise either key nor could they re-program.

The local car-lock specialist is baffled …… he says the ECM has the correct car key codes etc but he cannot get the car to recognise either key. He has gone away to consult other specialists.

This any good to you?...https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f-type-x152-72/smart-key-not-recognized-276354/ Post numbers 19 and 21 explain how the issue was fixed. Also see post numbers 13, 17 and 18 (Radio Frequency Receiver and KVM module).

I've attached some TOPIx information for the Smart Key which you may find helpful?

Thanks for the response.
Still waiting for the ‘specialist’ to get back to me …… from the many posts I’ve looked at I’m beginning to wonder if the answer lies with the KVM (especially as the ECM has all of the correct key information stored).

I don’t think my local specialist will deliver a solution so I guess I will now have to look for a real Jag specialist somewhere (anywhere) in the North of Engiand.

Does anyone know of such a Jag specialist ? I’m willing to travel ?

Do you have the CTEK MXS 5.0 battery charger or something very similar? If so have you done a ‘recond’ on the battery to give it that extra boost? You’re supposed to do this once every 12 months or after a deep discharge.

If the issue still persists and your local ‘specialist’ is unable to sort it out, try this website to find an Independent Jaguar Specialist near you https://the-jaguar-specialist-register.com/

I know you seem to have ruled out the key fob batteries, but are they a decent brand battery, I bought brand new cheap un branded batteries, they were new, correct voltage, but the fob didn’t work. I put in Duracell and the fob worked fine, it was exactly the same with my Renault van key fob.
Just a thought

Thank you for the responses.
The fob batteries are new Duracell and they have both been confirmed as working perfectly.

I do have a CTEK -type device and I have just put it on charge etc

I will attempt another full battery charge / recon and after that it’s contact the Jag specialists listing you so kindly sent.
Thank you (fingers crossed).

I would test the car battery voltage when it’s not recently been on a charger. You’d expect 12.6v. Eliminate that issue.

👍
Definitely worth trying as the 'Recond' setting on the CTEK MXS 5.0 puts more juice into the battery than a normal full charge.

Good luck!
