Afternoon everyone,

I thought I'd post just to say hello as a new member.

Based in Yorkshire, I am intending to purchase an F-Type in the next couple of months and have got myself down to a shortlist of 2 or 3.

There is a lesson here - do not sit in a pretty Yorkshire village, pint in hand, watching a F-Type swoop past and let yourself work out that actually - probably - you could afford one.

What follows is an unavoidable vortex that finds you downloading apps, getting insurance quotes, persuading wives (I only have one, to be clear) and working out finance deals.

That pint cost me £4.50. The final cost will be north of £30k.

Some pint.

I was in your position not long ago I may well be the one who swoop past you as I love getting "lost" around Yorkshire on my way home from work. I've been working at the same company and location for 17 years but the F-type has the power to make you forget how to get home 😊

If you want the ultimate F-type experience don't rule out the manual transmission V6 models. The V6 is generally considered the most balanced and engaging engine. Sound is subjective but many like me prefer the V6's howl to the V8's roar.

That's really helpful, thanks.

Current favourite is a 2019 P340 R-Dynamic Auto Coupe (mainly as I've driven autos for the past 15 years).

But, not made a final commitment just yet.

That's a great value for money trim. With £600 you can get it tuned to past 400bhp/500nm which is beyond the standard S trim if you're interested in the future. Get one with a panoramic roof if you can. I don't miss it but it'd be a nice thing to have.

I had hoped to find a panoramic roof but nothing doing via the Jaguar Approved Used.

Speaking of which, has anyone bought via that scheme? It seems to give a little more reassurance than through other routes but I guess it comes with an additional and largely hidden cost.

I think there will be quite a few cars in the AUC scheme with pano roofs, but maybe not at the price point you’re aiming.
Good luck with your search, though - they’re a cracking car. 👍

if you can get a vehicle registered from April 1st 2017 onwards the road tax becomes much cheaper when the vehicle hits 6 years old .
It is around £200 versus a boat load more for an older one.
I got my 380 awd 2019 from a Stratstone Renault dealer in February for £33.5k . I don't know what they are worth now though.

Cheers both.

Really helpful comments. It's a leap to part with the cash but I guess there will be some residual value in the future. Particularly as there won't be too many new ones coming out....

Reliability: I have had my 2015 v6s since Dec 2019. Bought with 17k miles, now on 34k. Only issue has been the centre vent failing to rise. Fixed with the guide on this forum. No other issues.

Do you find yours relatively reliable? I know that's a hard judgement to make but...

I bought mine in 2018 at a year old with 1,300 miles on the clock (ex-Jaguar management car!) and have had a couple of minor niggles that were sorted out under warranty and apart from that it's been super reliable. Don't believe the "Jaguars are unreliable" tales, they're usually put out by people who have no real experience of them and think we're still living in the bad old British Leyland days. The F-type is my fourth Jaaaag and the previous three were also reliable (2001 4.0 XK8, 2004 4.2 XKR and 2010 5.0 XKR). Keep on top of the maintenance (I use a trusted independent to keep mine in tip-top condition) and your only expense will be fuel and tyres!

The auto box is brilliant on these cars - they adapt to your driving style and seem to second-guess where I would want the shifts to occur - it's like ESP!

Enjoy the test drives and we look forward to seeing pictures of your new toy!

Love Yorkshire and love a pint! Where is this pub please, I'd like to have a drink and get some inspiration too :D

It was the Fountaine Inn in Linton, near Grassington.

To be fair, could be worse, I could easily have been tempted to buy a house instead of a Jag and that would have been a lot more!

The only problem I have had in the few months I have owned it is a lambda sensor in the exhaust which cost me about £75 online. I didn't even bother to get the warranty company involved as it wasn't worth the hassle.

Alas, made the decision to go for the 2019 P340 and....of course it sold over the weekend.

So, some questions if anyone fancies them:

1) Other than the obvious, what is the difference between the 2 litre 4 cylinder and the 3 litre V6? Is it just the romantic in me that wants the V6 or is there an actual difference between the two?

2) Pan roof. I'm not convinced. I like the idea of more light in the cabin but feels it would harm the overall external aesthetic?

As you can tell, my second option to the P340 is a 2019 P300 with Pan roof.

Either that or I wait it out (which I know is the right answer but it's not the fun answer)
